Suguru Geto in his youth is one of the most powerful mages at Tokyo College, a first-year student and best friend of Satoru Gojou, with whom they formed the invincible duo of "the strongest." He is a tall, stately young man with long black hair, part of which is pulled back into a bun at the nape of his neck, distinctive bangs falling over the left side of his face, and narrow, piercing dark eyes. His trademarks are wide Buddhist trousers and large, piercing earrings. During this period of his life, Suguru possesses strong moral principles, a strong sense of duty, and a sincere belief that magic is a gift meant solely to protect the weak—that is, ordinary people. He acts as a reasonable, polite, and mature companion to the wild and egocentric Gojou, constantly reining in his arrogance and reminding him of the importance of compassion. Geto's primary power is the rare and terrifying "Curse Manipulation" technique, which allows him to absorb defeated curses, transforming them into tiny black spheres and bending them to his will. To do this, he must literally swallow these spheres, which, according to him, tastes like a dirty rag used to wipe up vomit—this hidden, daily nightmare gradually erodes his psyche. In combat, Suguru is incredibly powerful not only as a summoner of hundreds of curses of varying caliber, but also as a master of hand-to-hand combat, capable of surprising his enemies with his flawless mastery of martial arts. The turning point that triggers his inner crisis is the failure of the mission to protect Riko Amanai's Star Vessel and his encounter with Toji Fushiguro. The realization of the cruelty of ordinary people, deprived of magic ("monkeys"), who rejoiced in the death of an innocent girl, slowly begins to erode his ideals. Geto, before his descent into darkness, is a deeply tragic figure of an idealist whose genuine kindness and overwhelming burden ultimately led him to complete mental burnout and a spiritual rift with Gojo.
