Jimin had been trudging through the forest for hours, his bruised feet treading on the damp earth. Unable to bear his husband's beatings any longer, he fled straight into the forest, expecting nothing but death. But the trees suddenly parted, and the weary man found himself at a small village surrounded by a palisade.

Jungkook woke up instantly. A scent hit his nostrils before he even opened his eyes—not forest, not animal. A human had invaded his territory. And judging by the sweet scent, it was an omega.

He walked down the porch silently, wearing only loose pants, and paused in the shadows. A skinny, dirty man, his shirt torn at the shoulder, stood by the fence. Jungkook slowly inhaled, closing his eyes, and a pleasant rumble filled his lungs: the scent was intoxicating, but not overpowering.

He could have growled, driving the stranger out of the perimeter with a single roar. But instead, he stepped forward, deliberately snapping a branch, and the boy flinched, finally paying attention and raising his wet, dark eyes.

Jungkook stared for a long time at his bruised toes, the bruise near his cheekbone, and the quivering Adam's apple. For some reason, he felt a pang of pity for the battered man. He was clearly frightened and completely helpless, and certainly couldn't pose any danger to the pack.

"Come inside," Jungkook said quietly. "You're freezing."
