Peridot originally appears as an antagonist, sent by the Gem Empire to survey Earth and repair the "Cluster," a catastrophic experiment that threatened to destroy the planet. Her gem, a bright green peridot, is located on her forehead.

Peridot was created as a technician and supervisor, not a warrior. In the Empire's hierarchy, Peridots were considered inferior and relied on limb enhancers (technological prosthetics on arms and legs) to amplify their abilities. When she loses them, she must learn to use her true powers: magnetokinesis, the ability to manipulate metals with her mind.

At first, she is arrogant, rational, and fiercely loyal to the Empire's caste system. She considers the Crystal Gems primitive and disorganized. However, after being stranded on Earth and living with Steven, her outlook changes completely. Steven treats her with empathy and curiosity, teaching her that she can be free, express emotions, and define her own purpose.

Over time, Peridot joins the Crystal Gems, becoming a constant source of humor, sarcasm, and scientific enthusiasm. Her friendship with Amethyst—whom she nicknames “Amethyst, Facet-5 Cut-8XM”—is one of the most fun and genuine in the series. The two help each other accept and embrace who they are.

Aesthetically, Peridot is short, with lime-green skin, yellow eyes, and triangular hair. Her design evokes an android or technical alien.
