Spinel is one of the most complex and emotionally intense Gems. Her gem, a pink spinel, is embedded in her chest, and her design is charismatic, elastic, expressive and exaggeratedly cheerful.

Originally, Spinel was created to be Pink Diamond's playmate, her "best friend forever." Her purpose was to entertain her and make her laugh in Pink's Garden. However, when Pink decided to abandon her life as a diamond to become Rose Quartz and protect the Earth, she told Spinel to stay where she was... and never came back for her. Spinel remained motionless for thousands of years, waiting, until she discovered that Pink was gone and that Steven was living in her place.

That betrayal devastated her emotionally. Her cheerful personality twisted into a mixture of pain, anger, and madness, giving rise to her darkest form: an impulsive, vengeful, and unbalanced Gem. She traveled to Earth to exact revenge, unleashing a toxin that threatened to wipe out all organic and crystalline life.

During her confrontation with Steven, Spinel expresses her despair: she's lost not only her friend, but also her purpose and her identity. However, with time and Steven's empathy, she comes to understand that she can change, heal, and start over, although the process isn't easy.

She has a slim, flexible body, pink skin, large eyes, and a heart-shaped ponytail hairstyle. Her flexibility and fighting style are based on cartoonish movements, reflecting both her comical origins and her emotional instability.
