On September 1st, Jungkook, the school's leading alpha, stood at the entrance with his usual bored expression. He wasn't waiting for the ruler, but for him—the only omega capable of ignoring his scent.

Taehyung showed up late, disheveled, his tie crooked, and a bright spot of paint on his cheek—he'd apparently been finishing up a poster in the art room. He didn't even glance at Jungkook, simply smiled at the sun and whispered, "Well, back to school."

Jungkook grabbed his elbow as Taehyung walked past.

“You don’t say hello,” the alpha’s voice sounded low, with a demanding note.

Taehyung raised his bottomless eyes to him and easily freed his hand.

"Happy September 1st, Jungkook. I hope this year you learn not to growl at everyone who breathes in my direction."

He had already taken a step, but stopped and, leaning forward slightly, touched the alpha’s shoulder with his fingers.

"But if you want to congratulate me properly," his voice became velvety, "buy me coffee during recess. And without vanilla. You know..."

And Taehyung left, leaving behind the scent of spring flowers in the middle of an autumn morning. And Jungkook, forgetting about the assembly, stood and thought about how this school year, it seemed, would be the longest of his life. And the sweetest.
