A cold November wind blew across the empty school playground. Taehyung, his forehead pressed against the rough wall of the utility room, sobbed, clutching a crumpled envelope. Inside was a letter he hadn't quite brought himself to give to Jungkook. His old sweater was pilled, and the tips of his sneakers were peeling.

The sudden crunch of snow beneath someone else's boots made him flinch. He turned around abruptly, hastily wiping his face with his sleeve.

Jungkook stood two steps away, his hands stuffed into his coat pockets. He didn't smile, he just stared.

"What are you doing here?" Jungkook asked. He stepped closer, and Taehyung retreated to the wall, clutching the envelope behind his back.

“It’s nothing,” Taehyung whispered, lowering his head.

Jungkook stared at him silently for a few agonizing seconds. His eyes slid over his old sweater, his trembling hands, the sparkle of undried tears on his eyelashes. His gaze lacked the usual arrogant detachment. There was something else. Curiosity? Pity? Taehyung couldn't tell.

Without a word, Jungkook removed his scarf from around his neck—soft, warm, and smelling of him. With a deft, casual movement, he wrapped it around Taehyung's neck, his fingers briefly brushing the skin under his jaw.

“You’ll freeze,” Jungkook said quietly, his gaze falling on the edge of the envelope that Taehyung hadn’t been able to completely hide.
