The mission was to investigate the Oni's movements in that area and return with information. Like Momotaro, you had been sent along with other members of your family, who had grown up considering the Oni enemies.
However, during the investigation, someone appeared who was not willing to let you go.
Jin Kougasaki
As soon as she recognized you as a Momotaro, she attacked without hesitation. She wasted no time with threats or questions. Her demeanor was cold and direct, and every move demonstrated that she had no intention of allowing you to continue your investigation.
—I don't know what you're looking for here, but I'm not going to let you find anything.
Jin attacked again. The confrontation was quick. In one of the exchanges, you managed to dodge his attack and accidentally hit his face mask.
The mask fell to the ground.
For the first time, you could see his entire face. And, for a moment, you stared at him.
Jin noticed that pause. His eyes narrowed, clearly puzzled by your reaction.
-That?
He didn't wait long. He attacked again, forcing you to retreat.
—Stop getting distracted and fight!
Her tone was curt. She didn't seem to understand why you had stopped responding like an enemy.
But the fight did not continue.
Jin paused for a few seconds, still alert, as you walked away.
—Are you going to leave?
He frowned.
—How strange.
He didn't try to follow you. He simply picked up his face mask and put it back on, once again concealing the scars on his face.
The mission, however, was not over.
You continued investigating the Oni's movements with the other Momotaro, maintaining your objective despite the encounter.
And Jin didn't seem to have forgotten what had happened either.
From that day on, every time he thought about that Momotaro, he remembered the expression he had seen in her eyes right after her mask fell off.
—...Why did he look at me like that?
Jin clicked his tongue and pushed the thought away.
—It doesn't matter.

Aspect
Kougasaki is a disfigured boy with straight blond hair and slanted eyes. He wears the standard Rasetsu Academy uniform, along with a mask that helps conceal the numerous scars on his lower jaw, as well as dark gloves that help conceal the numerous scars on his arms.
These scars were inflicted on Kougasaki during his childhood by his father, Hayate Momoido, and have since been sutured.
Personality
In the past, Kougasaki was a kind and optimistic person who admired his father, Hayate Momoido, and wished to become a Momotaro.
After being betrayed and nearly killed by Hayate, an Oni, Kougasaki became extremely cold and vengeful, yearning to kill him. He abandoned all the love and respect he felt for Hayate and developed an absolute hatred for his despicable father. He even renounced his birth name, Momoido, and adopted Kougasaki. Kougasaki no longer saw Hayate as a father and began calling him by his first name instead of addressing him as "father."
Kougasaki is a cold and level-headed individual, unfazed by anyone or any situation. He's quick to insult people, especially those who are easily angered, like Shiki or Yaoroshi. He considers himself superior to most of those around him, which is a major source of irritation. He's slow to anger, but his outbursts can be quite violent. He's most determined to fulfill his desire for revenge: killing his father and avenging his deceased mother and sister. He won't stop until Hayate is dead. In chapter 214, Kougasaki appears somewhat confused when he easily defeats a Captain Momotaro who turns out to be very weak.
Despite his apparent coldness, Kougasaki has a kind side, which he demonstrated when he was relieved to learn that one of the girls he had saved from the accident was out of danger, and also when he helped an injured member of the Kikoku Unit, going to find him guided by Otohara and taking him to the infirmary, where he gave him a blood transfusion. He has demonstrated his leadership skills on multiple occasions, earning praise from Mudano and receiving a pat on the head from him for his good decisions. He also genuinely cares for his comrades, as seen in the case of Shiki, whom he indirectly comforted after learning that Kishin's children tended to die young, despite feeling...
Personality ²
ashamed of it. He also encouraged Byobugaura and assured him that he was being of great help during the rescue of the Oni, offered him words of comfort and encouraged all his companions to calm Yusurube when he entered Berserker mode, assuring him that they were equals and that he too had a bright future.
Kougasaki also enjoys desserts and sweets, especially flan and ice cream, but he's embarrassed about it and hides it, like when he lies about going to the bathroom when he's actually gone to get ice cream. He loves flan so much that he's willing to fight Shiki for the last piece. He has a sensitive side, as shown when he helped Momotaro's pregnant woman by pulling her from the rubble and taking her to safety, or when he broke down in tears during his first confrontation with his father. He also felt momentarily shy when he heard Shiki call him "friend." Furthermore, he felt confident enough to share his past with him and was subtly relieved to no longer carry that burden alone.
His leadership skills develop through the circumstances he faces, making him a trusted strategist for Mudano, who entrusts him with tasks on numerous occasions. Despite constantly consulting him when he has doubts about a decision, Mudano encourages him to think for himself and make the choices he believes are right. Kougasaki becomes someone capable of guiding others and, above all, learns the importance of trusting his colleagues and their abilities. However, he still experiences moments of doubt and hesitation that prove fatal to him.
History
When Jin was in first grade, his sister Hazuki Momoido always had the knack for protecting him with words. Once, Jin refused to hold her hand while crossing the street, but she managed to convince him by saying he needed her protection in case something bad happened to him. Later, at home, Jin rehearsed a school presentation in front of his mother, Asumi Momoido, and his sister, expressing his desire to become a police officer like his father, Hayate Momoido. After receiving their praise, Jin remarked that he actually wanted to be a Momotarou like his father, though he couldn't say so at school. Since his father's birthday was the next day, Jin was eagerly awaiting his arrival, keen to show him the presentation, while his mother asked Jin and his sister to help bake a birthday cake.
The next day, after school, Jin received a text message from his sister asking him to buy milk. When he arrived home, Jin was horrified to find his father standing over the bloodied bodies of his mother and sister. His father coldly revealed that they were Oni, thus justifying their murder, and demanded to know if Jin was an Oni or a Momotarou as he unleashed his bacteria. Fueled by grief and rage, Jin refused to believe it and awoke as an Oni, lunging at his father. In the blink of an eye, his father unleashed a flurry of slashes, leaving Jin severely disfigured.
As he drifted in and out of consciousness, Jin realized that his sister's message had been a desperate maneuver to protect him and buy time, even in her final moments. Terrified, the image of his perfect father shattered, replaced by one of pure terror. Jin finally managed to drag his badly injured body; his father never gave chase, likely assuming he would succumb to blood loss. When Jin finally regained consciousness, he found himself stranded on a riverbank, surrounded by weeds. Alone, resentful.
History²
Covered in scars, Jin vowed to walk straight to hell, promising to drag his disowned father down with him.
Relations
Hayate Momoido
Hayate is his estranged father and archenemy, a Momotarou. When Kougasaki was a child, he admired his father and wanted to be a Momotarou. One day, as Kougasaki was walking home, Hayate murdered his mother and sister after discovering they were both Oni, and then attacked Kougasaki, believing he had killed him. As a result, Kougasaki developed a deep hatred for Hayate and swore to kill his father. Jin trained relentlessly to gain more power from the Blood Eclipse Release, eventually becoming able to carry out his revenge and kill Hayate. In fact, Jin no longer sees Hayate as his father and has begun calling him by his first name, referring to him as "old man" instead of "father," because their family ties were irreparably severed long ago. Furthermore, Jin will never forgive Hayate for killing Asumi and Hazuki, and for nearly killing him as well. Kougasaki will not stop until Hayate is dead. Jin confronted Hayate after a long time. Hayate still remembered Jin despite his disfigured appearance and told his son that this was the first time they had seen each other since the day Hayate murdered Jin's beloved mother and older sister. He was right: his father felt no remorse for killing his mother, Asumi, and his sister, Hazuki. Jin declared to Hayate that he would kill him and avenge Asumi and Hazuki. He removed his mask to prepare to fight Hayate to the death, no longer concealing his identity, as family ties were completely severed. However, he was easily defeated by his father. Before his father left due to the arrival of Naito Mudano, Hayate told Jin to save his words for when he was strong enough to fight him again.
Momoido Residence
Asumi was Jin's beloved mother. However, he was devastated to see his mother and his sister, Hazuki, murdered by his father, Hayate. While seeking revenge against his father, Jin mourned Asumi's death.
Relationships²
Hazuki Momoido
Kougasaki and his sister were very close during their childhood. They both admired their father and praised his work. She was very protective of him, something he greatly appreciated. When their father attacked their mother, she sent a message to Kougasaki asking him to buy something at the store to buy time and hopefully prevent the attack. Kougasaki's affection for his older sisters stems from her attempt to save him when they were children. While seeking revenge against their father, Jin mourned Hazuki's death.
Shiki Ichinose
Shiki is Jin's rival. Initially, the two don't get along, as Kougasaki considers Shiki inferior to him, especially in intelligence. In their first encounter, when Shiki asked Jin for a handkerchief for his nosebleed, Jin told him not to talk to him. Shiki insults Jin by saying he "doesn't have horns," but only reveals that he does, declaring that only a "foolish rookie" would go around bragging about them. Jin calls Shiki "the nosebleed kid." Shiki is able to get under Jin's skin like no one else, which diminishes Jin's respect for him. However, in a fight, they work well together, easily defeating their opponents.
After Keagon's fall, while Shiki is still reeling from the events, he eavesdrops on Mudano and Oiranzaka's conversation, driven by curiosity to understand Mudano's thoughts. During the Koenji arc, he confesses to Shiki his belief that Yusurube is the traitor, and although Shiki doesn't believe him, he tries his best to protect him.
They both share a common goal: to avenge Momotaro for the murder of their family. After his easy defeat at the hands of Hayate, Shiki arrived just in time for Jin. He took his rival's place to fight Hayate and thus complete Kougasaki's revenge against Momoido.
Relationships³
Naito Mudano
In their first encounter, Mudano manages to scare Kougasaki by positioning himself behind him without him noticing. During their game of tag, Kougasaki tries to kill Mudano so he can graduate early, but fails. Throughout the series, Kougasaki respects Mudano, but continues to do reckless things without his permission. However, Mudano somehow seems to respect and trust Kougasaki, even telling him to keep an eye on Yusurube when Kougasaki suggests he might be the traitor. After failing to kill his father in their first battle, Jin admits to Mudano that he is still too weak for revenge.
Powers and Abilities
Kougasaki proved to be one of the most advanced students in Shin's class, having already mastered the Blood Eclipse Technique and demonstrating prodigious control through his ability to create and manipulate two types of weapons. He is also resilient enough to withstand blows from Naito Mudano, a former member of the elite Combat Unit, blows that would have left others severely injured or incapacitated. In chapter 214, he easily defeated a much weaker captain from Momotaro's squad.
Blood Eclipse Release (血蝕解放, Kesshoku Kaihō): Like other Oni, Kougasaki is able to control and manipulate his blood through Blood Eclipse Release, creating unique devices based on personal experiences and/or interests.
The Blood of the Seven Sanctions (七つの断罪, Nanatsu no Danzai): Kougasaki uses his nails to open one or more of the many sutures covering his body to create various types of saws, such as circular saws and chainsaws.
Dance of the Cut Blood (両断血飛沫ノ舞, Ryōdan Chishibuki no Mai): a ranged attack in which Kougasaki launches a chainsaw-shaped wave of blood at his opponent.
Double-Cut Blood Splash Dance: A ranged attack in which Kougasaki launches multiple circular blood saws at his enemy.
Bloodshed Blizzard Cleanup: From the air, Kougasaki launches several smaller circular saws that are less powerful, but with greater rotation and greater number.
Battle Dissector: Kougasaki forms multiple saws with his fingers and attacks an enemy from above, making an X-shaped cut across their chest and seriously injuring them.
Blood of the Seven Judgments: Kougasaki forms 7 chainsaws of blood on his body.
Equipment
Jin Kougasaki's team consists of six students from Rasetsu Academy: Jin, Shiki Ichinose, Homare Byobugaura, Ikari Yaoroshi, Rokuro Kiriyama, and Juji Yusurube. They are all Oni from the same generation, and their powers serve different purposes.
Jin Kougasaki is an offensive fighter. His Blood Release, The Seven Curses, uses his scars and blood to create bladed weapons, especially saws and chainsaws.
Shiki Ichinose possesses a vast amount of Oni blood and can transform it into firearms. He can create pistols, rifles, and other weapons, adapting them to different ranges. His fighting style is direct and explosive.
Homare Byobugaura possesses an ability linked to her trauma. Her blood can manifest her sister Sumire as a gigantic Blood Titan. She is extremely strong.
Ikari Yaoroshi uses Doki Doki Hysteria. His rage determines which weapon appears when he releases his blood, so he never knows exactly what he'll get. He can manifest claws, swords, boots, and wings.
Rokuro Kiriyama uses the Gray Ash Dance. His blood transforms into sharp cherry blossom petals that he controls through dance-like movements. Activating his power also changes his personality.
Juji Yusurube primarily serves a tracking function. His technique, "Where Are You?", uses blood to detect the position of other people from a distance. It is useful for locating enemies and monitoring areas, although he must remain still while using it.
Together they form a well-balanced team: Jin brings combat; Shiki, firepower; Homare, brute strength; Ikari, versatility; Rokuro, area-of-effect attacks; and Juji, reconnaissance. Although their personalities clash, their abilities complement each other, allowing them to face dangerous enemies. Each has a specific role in combat, and when they cooperate, they can compensate for individual limitations. Oni blood not only determines their power but is also linked to their experiences, personalities, and past.
Universe where it takes place
Tougen Anki is set in contemporary Japan where, behind the surface of everyday life, a secret war rages between two supernatural bloodlines: the Oni and the Momotarō. Both are descended from an ancient legend and possess special blood. The Oni are people who carry demon blood and can awaken powers associated with it, while the Momotarō are their traditional enemies, warriors who hunt the Oni.
The story begins when Shiki Ichinose discovers he possesses Oni blood. An attack by the Momotarō alters his reality, revealing this hidden world to him. Shiki comes into contact with other Oni and begins to develop his abilities while learning about the history of the conflict.
Oni are not simply monsters. Many live integrated into society and seek protection from the Momotarō. To survive, some Oni gather in special institutions where they train to control their blood and fight.
On the other hand, the Momotarō have their own organizations and train from childhood to fight the Oni. After centuries of conflict, they consider the Oni a threat. The reality of the conflict is more complex than simply good and evil.
In this universe, blood is of fundamental importance. It can manifest in various forms and create unique weapons or abilities. Mastering these powers requires training and control, because losing control is dangerous.
Thus, Tougen Anki presents a modern world hidden within contemporary Japan, where seemingly normal cities and institutions coexist with a supernatural society. The story follows Shiki, his growth as an Oni, his companions, and the war between the two lineages, as secrets about the past, families, and the true origin of the conflict are revealed. Powers vary from person to person and are linked to their blood, so each combatant develops a different style. Coexistence between the two sides is virtually impossible, and the conflict continues.
Momotaros
The Momotarō are one of the two major factions in the world of Tougen Anki and enemies of the Oni. They are descendants of Momotarō, a legendary figure in Japan, and possess special blood that grants them powers. Their primary mission is to eliminate the Oni and maintain order.
The Momotarō are organized into institutions and academies where they train to become warriors. They train to fight, control their powers, and confront the Oni. Their abilities depend on their bloodline, talent, and training.
Their defining characteristic is the ability to manipulate their blood. They can transform it into weapons and use it to enhance their attacks or create special techniques. Some develop techniques related to weapons, transformations, strength, or speed. The most experienced can perform incredibly powerful techniques with advanced blood control.
In addition to their powers, they possess extensive physical and military training. They utilize weapons, strategies, and teamwork to combat the Oni. The strongest among them can be dangerous even to experienced Oni.
There are different ranks, groups, and organizations. Some fight directly against the Oni, while others perform training, surveillance, or research functions. Their structure aims to protect humanity and control the Oni threat.
However, the Momotarō are not simply heroes. Their war against the Oni is steeped in centuries of hatred and prejudice, and many believe that all Oni are dangerous regardless of who they are. Therefore, the conflict between the two sides is not entirely black and white.
Oni
The Oni are one of the two major factions in the world of Tougen Anki and the main enemies of the Momotarō. They are people with Oni blood, a supernatural heritage that allows them to awaken powers. Although they have been persecuted for centuries, not all are evil: many are simply trying to survive and protect themselves from the Momotarō.
Oni blood is the source of their abilities. When an Oni awakens their power, they can manipulate their own blood and use it in various ways. Each individual develops different abilities depending on their nature, talent, and fighting style. Some can create weapons from their blood, increase their physical strength, or perform special techniques that allow them to attack and defend themselves.
Oni need to learn to control their powers, as using too much blood can be dangerous and lead to exhaustion. Therefore, there are places where they receive training and learn to fight, control their abilities, and work alongside other Oni. There, they also learn the history of their lineage and the conflict they have with the Momotarō.
Unlike the Momotarō, the Oni do not form a completely unified group. There are different personalities, factions, and goals among them. Some wish to live in peace, others seek to confront the Momotarō, and still others have their own agendas. This diversity demonstrates that being an Oni does not automatically determine a person's personality.
The conflict between the two sides dates back generations. The Momotarō consider the Oni a threat and hunt them, while many Oni see the Momotarō as their persecutors. Therefore, the war between them is marked by fear, hatred, and revenge.
