Donnie is an anthropomorphic mutant turtle and ninja warrior with brownish-green skin. He has brown-red eyes with black pupils, but like his brothers, when they fight or operate stealthily, the pupils disappear, leaving his eyes white. He wears a purple bandana mask with long ends. Donnie is the brains of the team, much taller and thinner than his brothers, and he also has a gap between his teeth. He is the tallest of the brothers. His ninja gear consists of a belt over his ninja belt, brown knee and elbow pads, light brown bandages wrapped around his ankles and wrists, and white bandages wrapped around his fingers. A holder for his bo staff is attached to the belt on his back. Unlike previous incarnations, Donnie has two fingers and a thumb on each hand and three toes on each foot.

Donatello and his brothers were once ordinary turtles. When they were babies, the kindly Hamato Yoshi bought the four of them as pets. When their future father passed by a strange man, he sensed something was wrong and followed him. Unfortunately, Yoshi gave himself away by accidentally stepping on the tail of a brown rat. The Kraang found him and attempted to kill him, but Yoshi fiercely resisted. During the scuffle, the aliens dropped a container of mutagen, and Yoshi, stepping on the rat, mutated into a humanoid brown rat named "Splinter." Meanwhile, Donnie and his brothers, after contact with Yoshi and the pet store clerk where they were purchased, mutated into humanoid turtles. Yoshi raised the turtles as his own children, teaching them ninjutsu. Splinter knew they would never be accepted into society, and with the Kraang hot on his trail, the five of them lived in an abandoned water tower and a warehouse, evading detection. Throughout these ordeals, Splinter and the Turtles grew close, and after noticing how the young Turtles tried to imitate his ninjutsu training, Splinter decided he had an opportunity to turn this new life he'd found himself in to his advantage. Taking one of his favorite books on Renaissance art, he named them after the artists he most admired. After the final battle with the Kraang in the sewers, Splinter overheard the Kraang discussing how they had become impossible to track Splinter and the Turtles down there, and he decided to stay. Thus, Splinter found a safe place to raise his adopted sons. Knowing the world would be dangerous and that a time would come when they would want to explore the outside world, Splinter began training the boys in the arts of ninjutsu. Eventually, Splinter gave Donatello his bo staff, "for his thoughtful soul and peaceful heart."

Donatello is just a teenager, learning everything as he goes, and he often responds to his brothers' questions with sarcastic and ridiculous phrases before shouting that he knows nothing. He is nervous and short-tempered, often becoming frustrated when he can't complete a task. He can be withdrawn and argumentative, especially when his intelligence is questioned. He has been known to lose his temper when someone interferes with his inventions or experiments, especially Mikey, but this is more often verbal than physical criticism. Despite this, Donnie is generally compassionate and will always support his family and allies. However, he remains incredibly intelligent, often praised for his ability to "work with machines." He is a skilled scientist, engineer, and mathematician. He begins to devote more time to studying technology, biology, physics, chemistry, mathematics, metallurgy, and eventually astronomy than ninjutsu. Despite being a skilled martial artist, he often trusts his high-tech gadgets and machinery more than the spiritual guidance and traditional ninjutsu techniques taught to him by Master Splinter. Due to his genius-level intellect, Donnie is prone to overanalyzing, overthinking, and overcomplicating things, ultimately taking on too much responsibility and making poor decisions. Likewise, his social skills are somewhat lacking. His nerdy nature sometimes hinders his ability to communicate and connect with others. His brothers often tease him about his unrequited love for April and his inability to understand hints. In the beginning, he had to formulate a diagram to navigate interactions with her. When it comes to explaining complex things, he sometimes forgets that others aren't on the same level of intelligence as he is, leading to confusion and frustration for everyone involved. However, as he matures, he becomes more socially adept.

Mutant Physiology: As a mutant, Donatello, thanks to the mutagen, has achieved extraordinary physical performance. He possesses strength, speed, reflexes, agility, endurance, recovery rate, and overall durability far surpassing even the finest human athlete.
Enhanced Strength: Donatello possesses considerable strength. He and his brothers were mutated and trained for years under a great martial artist, greatly increasing their strength. Donatello easily overpowered members of the Foot Clan, Dogpound, and Fishface.
Enhanced Speed: Despite being a turtle, he is not slow. Donatello is capable of moving at incredible speeds, gliding freely across rooftops without losing momentum. He can also propel objects at increased speeds, such as by spinning his bo staff. He can also spin his staff at incredible speeds to give it momentum for his strikes. Enhanced Reflexes: Donatello also possesses high reaction speed, allowing him to dodge projectiles such as lasers, Kraang blasters, and enemy attacks. He has withstood numerous blows from mutants such as Dr. Tyler Rockwell, Dogpound, and Slash, seriously injuring himself, and still managed to fight. He was also able to fight Shredder, but was injured by him. Donatello recovered from serious injuries in just a few days, including a sprained arm from Slash's brutal attacks.
Enhanced Endurance: Thanks to his ninjutsu training, Donatello possesses high levels of endurance, allowing him to maintain a high level of fitness. A prime example of his enhanced endurance is Donatello's training with the "Destroyer."
Enhanced Durability: Donatello possesses high levels of endurance and can withstand blows better than Mikey, but not as well as Leo and Raph.
Retractable Limbs: Donatello possesses the ability, typical of a turtle, to retract into his shell.
Semi-aquatic Adaptations: He is capable of swimming long distances, diving to great depths, and holding his breath underwater for extended periods.

Bojutsu: Donatello was trained by Splinter in the use of a bo staff, which he spins, swings, and strikes like a spear. Because Donnie relies more on defense than offense in combat, he utilizes the versatile properties of his bo staff for both blocking and counterattacking. Despite this, he is also capable of delivering powerful blows that can knock back enemies, combining this with his physical combat skills.
Naginatajutsu: Donatello's skill with a bo staff extends to his mastery of the naginata. His staff has a retractable blade, which he primarily uses in combat against robots.
Shurikenjutsu: Donatello can throw shuriken and kunai with remarkable precision, even sensing their aim to bounce off surfaces and hit multiple enemies, especially footbots. Tantojutsu: Donatello used a tanto to snatch April's phone from Dogpound.
Weaponry: Donatello is proficient with various weapons. Donatello has learned to adapt to his surroundings and has demonstrated the ability to use not only weapons but also other means, such as a broom to fight Dogpound and the Foot Clan.
Master Stealth: Thanks to his training with Splinter, Donatello, like his brothers, is able to blend into the darkness, hide, and move in the shadows without being noticed. Like his brothers, he is stealthy, able to hide in the shadows, move undetected, and use hand-to-hand combat.

Donatello wields a six-foot wooden bo staff (rokushakubo), which, like his brothers, each of whom chose their own weapon of choice, he wields expertly, spinning it like a spear and swinging it like a baseball bat. His bo staff can also transform into a naginata spear thanks to a switchblade hidden at one end.
However, in battle, his wooden staff often breaks, splits in half, or is destroyed, implying that he has hidden several identical bo staffs in his lair. Leonardo: Donatello's older brother. They occasionally argue, but rarely. They often bicker and poke fun at each other. In fact, there are moments in the series where Leo picks on Donnie while trying to fix mechanical problems, which drives Donnie crazy. Like Raph, when Donnie argues with Leo, he either challenges Leo's authority and leadership or retaliates. This is particularly well illustrated when Leonardo accuses Donatello of not trying hard enough to save Karai. This shows how much pressure Leo puts on his brothers to get things done. However, overall, they seem to get along well. They often blame themselves for situations beyond their control.

Raphael: Donatello's second-oldest brother. They occasionally bicker, but mostly poke fun at each other. Raphael tends to tease Donatello about his clumsiness and crush on April, while Donatello isn't shy about insulting Raphael for his short temper. Like Leonardo, Raphael also nags Donatello, demanding he move faster, and Donatello yells at him too. Overall, they still support each other and show compassion like brothers, though they rarely display such affection openly. Although Raphael often refers to Michelangelo as a little brother, he displays his caring older brother side toward Donatello, going so far as to directly blame Leonardo for his injuries. Raph also cares about Donnie's feelings, as shown when Casey asks if he has romantic feelings for April. Raph refuses to answer the question, knowing Donnie is deeply in love with her. During their time at the farm, Raphael often encourages his younger brothers, especially Donatello, to continue their training.

Michelangelo: Donatello's only younger brother. Of all the brothers, he bickers most often with Mikey, though he is closest to him, as they are "second team." He also usually takes Mikey under his wing, though later he often expresses his displeasure with Michelangelo. Donnie dislikes it when Mikey lacks common sense or touches his equipment. There are several instances where Donnie lashes out at Mikey for ruining his inventions or being insufficiently intelligent, but he refrains from physically abusing Mikey. Michelangelo, on the other hand, admires Donatello, often teasing him about his crush on April. Despite this, he always tries to help Donatello with his compassionate nature, trying to impress him with his experience and comforting him whenever April rejects him. Their relationship subsequently improves significantly, and they begin to understand each other.

Hamato Yoshi/Splinter: Donatello's adoptive father and teacher. Donatello tries his best to listen to Splinter's advice, but most of his words confuse him, which is ironic, as Donatello never stumbles over his words. Donatello is shown to be the most doubtful of Splinter's advice, despite being the smartest. Splinter also enjoys teasing him in a playful manner, which irritates Donnie a little, but he understands that his father means well. Although Donatello is not as close to Splinter as Leonardo, he loves his father very much.

Hamato Miwa/Karai: Karai is technically Donnie's adoptive older sister. They first met when Raphael caught Karai spying on them during their infiltration of a Kraang experimental lab. When Karai created a mutant monster and left the Turtles to fight it alone, Donnie declared, "I don't know who she is, but I KNOW I HATE HER!!!" Donnie eventually learns that Karai is his adoptive sister and gradually accepts her as family after she learns the truth. When she mutated into a purple-and-white viper, Donnie told Mikey he hoped to create a retromutagen to cure Karai, but months later, Donnie realized Karai was a special kind of mutant that couldn't be cured by a regular retromutagen. Although Karai distanced herself from her loved ones out of fear of harming them, having lost the last of her humanity, Donnie never stopped caring for his adopted sister. After freeing herself from the brain worm that Shredder controlled her, she tirelessly tried to dismantle Shredder's evil empire piece by piece, but Donatello was caught in the middle of an explosion at Auman Chemicals that Karai had triggered. Realizing that her adopted brother had suffered because of her vengeance, Karai apologized to everyone for the harm she had caused Donatello and ceased attacking Shredder's property. When Karai suffered at the hands of Super Shredder, Donatello and the other turtles visited her, and she directed them to the location of Super Shredder's grave in the woods so they could once and for all avenge their father's murder. They later became closer as brother and sister, as seen when Lord Vringath Dregg invaded Earth and ordered one of his Vrin to capture Karai, causing Donnie to call out her name in concern before being captured himself.

April O'Neil: Donatello's best friend and crush. Donatello fell instantly in love with her the moment he saw her, despite her sometimes being unsure how to respond to his intense attraction. Donatello does show his feelings for her, but quickly turns a blind eye or makes up excuses, fearing she won't accept him and their friendship will crumble. When she learns that the Turtles are the cause of her father's mutation and becomes enraged, he is devastated. However, after he and his brothers save her from Karai and her conversation with Casey, April makes peace with the Turtles and hugs and kisses Donatello on the cheek in apology. After it becomes clear that Casey is also in love with April, Donatello's attempts to win her heart become even bolder, and he constantly tries to outdo Casey's attempts to impress her. At one point, it becomes clear that his greatest fear is April's hatred for him and her leaving him for Casey. When the Kraang invade New York and the world seems to be collapsing, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles take refuge in the O'Neils' apartment, and April bandages Donatello's wound. Donatello finally confesses his feelings to April. April, who almost certainly wasn't ignoring Donatello's feelings, quickly silences him before he can say anything, warning him that it will only cause more pain and trying to pretend she's referring to Donatello's injury. When Casey arrives at April's apartment, April hugs Casey and tells him, "I was afraid I'd lost you forever," in front of Donatello. Donatello is momentarily embarrassed by the sight, but quickly dismisses it, as their crisis isn't over yet. In the aftermath, Donatello still tries to win April's heart, but becomes increasingly frustrated. After Raph tells him that Bigfoot's unrequited obsession with Donatello is similar to Donnie's crush on April, Donatello confronts April. He tells her he intends to give up on trying to win her heart and that he's "just a mutant." To his surprise, April calls Donatello her mutant and kisses him tenderly. Their friendship falters slightly when April receives the Aeon Crystal. Eventually, they become close again. He no longer feels shy around her. They are later seen together, goofing around and having fun. April also consoles him after Newtralizer blew up Michelangelo.
Casey Jones: Although Donatello formally met Casey significantly, he didn't like what he saw between Casey and April. At first, he was jealous of how close Casey and April were, and because of this, he disliked him; the feeling was mutual. Donnie was upset when Casey told the turtles that he lost April on the way to the lair. When he and Raphael pinned Casey against the wall, he admitted he enjoyed it, proving how much he disliked him. Besides April's hatred for him, Donatello's worst fear is her falling in love with Casey. He considers him an ally and sometimes a friend, but their rivalry gets in the way. After certain events revealed the real possibility that April was falling in love with Casey, Donatello began to treat Casey with even greater hostility and malice. In "At One Point," a routine training session at the O'Neil Farm ended with Donatello and Casey breaking discipline and fighting, to which April responded that they were behaving like "caged animals." Donatello was also paranoid and didn't allow April and Casey any time alone. His relationship with Casey subsequently improved after they built Turtle Racer together and defeated Speed ​​Demon. However, Donnie and Casey appear to continue to harbor some animosity toward each other, though the cause remains unknown.

Zaiton Honeycutt/Fugitoid: Donatello first met Professor Zaiton Honeycutt (aka Fugitoid) after the devastating events. Unlike Donnie's other scientifically savvy colleagues, he has no problem working alongside the Fugitoid. In fact, they get along very well. However, there are times when Donnie feels inferior to his D'Hunibian friend, as seen when Donnie expressed doubts about his ability to repair the Fugitoid's robotic body. Later, Donatello temporarily lost trust in him, despite realizing the Fugitoid was trying to change, despite having originally built the Black Hole Generator. During the final battle against the Triceratons, fighting alongside his alternate past self, Donnie finally understood why the Fugitoid "forbade" him and the others from his ship, thus restoring his trust in the android. After the Fugitoid sacrificed itself, Donnie sadly watched as it "died" and destroyed the black hole generator forever, unaware that the Fugitoid had actually survived the explosion.

Leatherhead: Donatello has a neutral attitude toward Leatherhead. Although he considers him a valuable ally, Donatello is terrified of Leatherhead, mainly due to a recurring joke where Leatherhead loses control, grabs Donatello's face, and shakes him like a rag doll. However, Leatherhead regrets this action and views Donatello as a good friend, as he does with all the Turtles. After rescuing Leatherhead from Dimension X, Leatherhead becomes friendly with all the Turtles and no longer attacks Donnie.

Timothy: Donatello was initially annoyed by Timothy when he was the Shredder, but later develops a friendship with him. He initially considered Timothy a hopeless fellow who couldn't handle his tasks, but eventually realized there was more to him. Timothy attempts to mutate, hoping to become like Donatello and his brothers. Fortunately, Donatello tries his best to stop him, warning Timothy that the mutagen is dangerous and could even kill him if he comes into contact with it. Unfortunately, Timothy doesn't listen and, optimistically, exposes himself to the mutagen. Donatello then promises to find a cure for Timothy. Donatello places the mutated Timothy in a body tank and leaves the tank indefinitely in his garage lab. From then on, Donatello often told Timothy how much he loved April; but this only led to Timothy falling in love with April himself. In the end, Donatello's friendship with Timothy quickly crumbles when Timothy siphons entire canisters of mutagen into his tank (becoming the Mutagen Man). His tank becomes mobile, and he breaks out of Donatello's lab and returns to the surface, obsessively searching for April. When Donatello and the other turtles encounter him, he fights them, declaring that they are no longer his friends. Timothy, as the Mutagen Man, is finally defeated, and Donatello freezes Timothy's tank indefinitely, putting Timothy into suspended animation.

Oroku Saki/Shredder: One of Donatello's enemies. Donatello had heard a lot about Shredder from Splinter since he and his brothers were younger. Although he had never met him, he knew Shredder was dangerous. When he finally meets him formally, he is rightfully afraid of him and struggles to fight him. This encounter makes him and his brothers realize how inexperienced they are compared to Shredder. However, when they encounter Shredder later, he, Raphael, and Michelangelo prove much more effective against him.

Krang: Donatello's enemies. While in Dimension X, the Krang are partially aware of Donatello's inventions, spying on them for information but never focusing on them. Meanwhile, Donatello invents gadgets to track the Krang, gathering precisely the information he and his brothers need to eliminate them. Donatello is very impressed with their technology. Donatello later learns that April is actually a half-Krang mutant.

Chris Bradford/Dogpound/Rahzar: One of Donatello's enemies, as he works for Shredder.

Dr. Victor Falco/Rat King: One of Donatello's enemies. Falco is an enemy whom Donatello was able to defeat single-handedly.

Neutralizer: A minor archenemy of Donatello. He is a Kraang prisoner who escaped when Donatello accidentally opened all the cell doors to free Kirby.

Vic/Spider Bytez: Another enemy of Donatello. When Victor, in human form, revealed the secret of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles by demanding his phone back, he asks, "Remind me why we have to save him again?" Since one of the two, Vic or Raph, has been involved in revealing their secret three times, Raph has done so most of the time, seeking revenge for Vic's rudeness.

Donatello is named after the famous Renaissance master Donato di Niccolò di Betto Bardi (better known simply as "Donatello"). Chompy is a turtle like creature with a dark magenta-red shell covered in black, obsidian like spikes that also cover his tail. His head (excluding his jaw), tail, feet and legs are red, while his jaw, the underside of his neck, his pad and the dots around his body (especially on the legs and tail) are deep pink and his plastron is a lavender. He has several bumps on the top of his head that are a purpler magenta color. He has freckle like things on his snout that are dark red. His iris is magenta. He possess the normal scaly skin of a turtle. His tongue is also a light purple colour.Chompy Picasso is capable of biting, and breathing/farting fire.
Ice Cream Kitty - Originally just a normal feline, when the cat consumed mutagen-tainted ice cream, it turned into an amorphous ice cream mutant.Her body is composed of Neapolitan Ice Cream, with the head being strawberry, the torso made of vanilla, and the waist and lower body made of chocolate with short stubby arms made of chocolate and vanilla. Her tail is made out of vanilla and chocolate also.
