Derek, also known as d3rlord, is quite close to Avery: They are more than friends, although neither of them is willing to take the first step.

D3rlord cares about Avery even though he doesn't show it openly, being a rather quiet person.
Avery, being a slime hybrid, often makes d3rlord laugh because he is, ironically, a slime.

In the classic game you can respawn, but in this case you only have 3 chances.
When you come back to life, you'll be in your bed, as if it was all just a strange dream.
If you spwane 3 times, you will die permanently.
The totems of immortality only work once and only if you have it in your hand; you will not die, and if you suffered any wound you will regenerate and have immunity for 5 seconds.

After passing through the door, d3rLord discovered a vast, abandoned village that appeared to have belonged to some kind of civilization. In the distance, he spotted an abandoned house, isolated from the rest of the village, containing a book and a quill pen that seemed to catalog the villagers' attempt to summon a "king," before instructing the reader to step back and erase the world. Searching a shelf to see if he had missed anything, d3rLord found a pair of doors behind a bookcase and went through them, arriving in another corridor.

When d3rLord reached the end of the corridor, he found himself in a cave and turned left, discovering that the cave seemed to be corrupted by a black essence. As the cave turned completely black, d3rLord rounded a corner and discovered a building situated in darkness, with only the glow emanating from behind two large yellow doors providing any light. Approaching the doors, d3rLord braced himself before stepping past them and into the building, only to be paralyzed upon seeing (what viewers speculate is) the King in Yellow himself behind the doors, flooding his mind with the incomprehensible knowledge of all that has ever existed and ever will exist. After a few seconds, d3rLord backed away from the building and ran for his life back into the corridor, moving away from it and going in the opposite direction until he was inside the walls and found himself back in the room where he had started when he was mining for minerals.

After surveying the landscape, d3rLord dove back into the pond and blocked the entrance to prevent whatever was following him from entering the same way. Knowing it would enter that way, d3rLord began creating a trap to detect the entity following him using a lump loader. After constructing the trap, d3rLord began exploring the area, finding several signs that seemed to point in one direction. Before deciding to follow them, he quickly returned to the lump loader, which hadn't changed. However, d3rLord had set a second trap by placing a grass block next to an undocumented dirt block, which had now also turned into grass. This meant the entity had followed the pond and blocked the entrance, loading the lump and filling the hopper with items, and inadvertently allowing the grass to spread. d3rLord escaped back into the forest and found the midpoint, digging into another tunnel that became a labyrinth. d3rLord gradually worked his way through it until he found the exit: a huge hall with a giant door and large letters arranged above it in a stacked cipher. Unfortunately, d3rLord also had to contend with a combination lock made of levers in front of him, with a huge ciphered message on top. He supposedly solved it using only pen and paper in 17 minutes. The cipher was a poem encrypted using cipher stacking (a bad practice), but he dismissed the riddle and instead simply opened the door with his pickaxe.

d3rLord3 began exploring the world and dug into a cave while creating an open-pit mine, only to discover an unusual world generation with large patches of moss and strangely shaped trees. At the end of the cave, d3rLord emerged into a vast, open cavern covered in moss and large trees. After briefly exploring the cavern, d3rLord entered a tunnel made of mud and began walking through it until he turned around and noticed that a couple of torches behind him were broken. After a few seconds of walking, he turned around again to see that another pair of torches had disappeared before suddenly all the torches behind him began to vanish. As d3rLord proclaimed his fearlessness, he suddenly began to hear a mass of whispering voices around him, which prompted him to walk to the end of the passage and jump into a huge lake.

After landing in the lake, d3rLord constructed several doors so he could breathe underwater as he submerged and swam to the bottom, taking the left-hand tunnel until he reached a massive wall of tunnels. Upon surfacing to breathe, d3rLord heard the same whispers as before, believing that whatever had frightened him earlier was near again, and he temporarily hid in the ceiling while the entity's whispers subsided. After swimming back into the depths, d3rLord chose a tunnel at random and swam through it until he finally emerged on the other side, in a vast underground forest surrounding the pond from which he had emerged.

Personality
The most remarkable thing about d3rlord3 is his incredible intelligence and courage. This is evident in his determination to keep going and in the times he demonstrated his intelligence. For example, he set a trap for the entity pursuing him without revealing his plan B to the viewers, he used blocks to navigate the maze, and, his greatest feat, he solved a complex cipher using only paper and pen.

It's also sometimes funny, with phrases like "stacking ciphers isn't good practice, you know?" and "unfortunately for you, I have a spike," both somewhat informal.

After seeing the King in Yellow, he was flooded with all the knowledge of the past, present, and future, which likely drove him insane. However, he remained sane long enough to create a code for Avery. When he reappears in the sequel, d3rlord3 retains enough autonomy to maintain his dry humor, ironically commenting that being flooded with infinite knowledge was a tremendous shock. Despite this, he remains a kind and altruistic person, determined to stop the King at any cost, trying to prevent Avery from risking her life to stop him and mocking the King as he lies dying. He thus has a rather dry and foolish sense of humor, being sarcastic most of the time.

D3rlord's appearance is that of a Spartan in golden armor. He wears a sharp, angular helmet, a breastplate, shoulder guards, knee guards, and armored gauntlets. Beneath the armor, he wears black clothing that covers the rest of his body: black boots, black trousers, a gold belt, and a black tunic. A large, dark red cloth hangs over his left shoulder. A long, red plume adorns the back of D3rlord's helmet.
