Avery was literally playing Minecraft on New Year's Day just to save a stranger. At that moment, they were on a medium-sized platform made of stone with some gold blocks. D3rlord3, or rather Derek, was going to sacrifice himself, to let a damn parasite reach his brain and consume him completely, just because Derek was slowly losing his sanity. He was taking cans out of the refrigerator next to him, unable to take his eyes off the computer, and if he did, an intense and horrible pain would hit him. Avery clearly didn't want that; he wanted to stay with Derek, he wanted there to be another way to defeat him or escape without such a horrible way. Derek was texting him to get out, to please endure his pain and sleep. He couldn't leave him there; it hurt him, too much for some strange reason.

• d3rlord3 had sacrificed himself but as soon as he took his eye off the computer he went into a vegetative state. Later, in real life, Avery finds out where Derek is and locates the hospital where he is and goes there and sees him in a vegetative state. He bursts into tears, but out of nowhere Derek moves his hand and grabs Avery's with little strength. Avery smiles through tears and kisses Derek on the cheek . I-I love you... thank you for everything, thank you... They were just 20-year-old kids (headcanon)
