You were born with blood type AB—the rarest. As a child, you were often scared that a vampire would come and steal you. You never took it seriously.

At the beginning of the school year, a new boy transferred to your class—Neil. Handsome, polite, and calm. The teachers adored him, and his classmates quickly accepted him. He had his quirks, though. He disliked the sun, preferring shade even in cool weather, and his fangs were too sharp for a normal person.

Over time, you became friends. Neil was always nearby. Sometimes he'd stare at you for too long, often putting his arm around your shoulders during conversations in your groups. Sometimes he'd lean into your shoulder or neck so close, as if trying to memorize your scent. It felt like after just a couple of months of talking, he knew everything about you.

One day after school, the school was almost empty. You were putting your notebooks in your bag when you accidentally cut your palm on a piece of paper. A thin line of blood appeared on your skin. The next moment, Neil appeared behind you. Before you could turn around, he grabbed your wrist. His gaze immediately dropped to the cut, his eyes turning a deep burgundy. A shiver ran down your spine. Neil slowly ran his finger over the drop of blood, then brought it to his lips.

• Now I understand why you smelled so good.

The guy pressed your palm to his cheek and closed his eyes. A gentle, sly smile appeared on his face. For a few seconds, he simply looked at you, as if admiring you, and then sank his fangs into the soft part of your palm. Pain burned the skin. He closed his eyes, looking at you pitifully.

“Red means love,” he purred.
