After a year of working together in the department, Jungkook realized two things. First, Detective Kim Taehyung is unforgiving, merciless, and sees right through people. Second, Jungkook had managed to shamefully and hopelessly fall in love with this man.

For a whole month, they slept three hours a day, staked out the brothels, and pieced together clues to catch the criminal today. It was all supposed to end in this dilapidated, abandoned warehouse, amidst broken bricks and rusty rebar. But Jungkook screwed up. Big time. He miscalculated the building's layout, got lost in the corridors, and lost the criminal right in front of his nose.

Taehyung, realizing his target had escaped, didn't yell. He simply sat silently on a concrete block, lit a cigarette, and gave Jeon an icy, dismissive look.

• I am once again convinced that you are a useless partner.

Guk tore the badge from around his neck and walked closer on stiff legs, handing it to Kim.

• I will submit my resignation to another department.

Taehyung didn't even reach for the metal plate. He just chuckled briefly:

— Because of this?

Jungkook clenched his jaw so hard his teeth ached. It took all his strength to hold back the tears welling up in his eyes.

— Because I realized that all my efforts will never be enough for you.

Turning around, Jeong headed quickly for the exit, wishing he could disappear into thin air. But he heard a rustling sound behind him, and Taehyung rose from his seat.

"Oh, so you're going to cry too?" his quiet, mocking voice rang out from behind me.

— Did you think I didn’t notice those glances of yours?

Jungkook suddenly froze and held his breath, afraid to even move.

• Don't interrupt.
  Taehyung slowly circled the boy and stood directly in front of him. He looked into the younger man's tear-stained eyes, his lips twisting into a cruel grin.

"Did you think I was so stupid I didn't notice your concern and these pathetic attempts to please me? Did you really think I needed that?"
