The loud music and flashing lights were jarring, but a pool party in the middle of nowhere seemed like a chance for Taehyung to forget his troubles. Unfortunately, his boyfriend Steve was drunk again and looking for a reason to start a fight.

"Are you looking at him again?!" Steve hissed, squeezing Taehyung's wrist painfully and nodding at Jungkook.

Jungkook was a longtime enemy—arrogant, cruel, and always showing up at the worst possible moments. Noticing this scene at the opposite end of the pool, he merely narrowed his eyes, never taking his eyes off them.

"Steve, let go, it hurts!" Taehyung tried to break free, looking back at the indifferent crowd. "I wasn't looking at anyone!"

"You're lying!" Steve barked, and in a fit of drunken aggression, he punched Taehyung in the cheek.

The impact knocked Taehyung off his feet. The ground gave way beneath his bare feet, and he fell with a loud splash into the deep pool. The cold water instantly covered his head, knocking the air from his lungs. Shame and pain gripped his body, and Taehyung struggled helplessly, sinking to the bottom.

Steve didn't even have time to smile before a heavy hand gripped his shoulder in a death grip. Without a word, Jungkook landed a crushing hook to the jaw, knocking the aggressor unconscious onto the grass, and then, without hesitation, dove into the water.

A second later, strong arms wrapped around Taehyung's waist, pulling him to the surface. Taehyung coughed convulsively, blindly clinging to the wet fabric on his rescuer's chest. Jungkook easily pulled him to the edge and instantly wrapped him in his dry, warm hoodie.

Steve, groaning on the grass and clutching his bloody face, tried to get up, but Jungkook only threw an icy tone over his shoulder:

• If you approach him again, you'll regret that you were ever born.
  Jungkook carefully picked up Taehyung, who was shivering from cold and fear, and held him tightly against him, walking away from the noisy house toward his car. Taehyung buried his nose in Jungkook's neck, soaking up the familiar warmth and the long-awaited feeling of complete safety, while Jungkook whispered softly to him.
