Sirius flinched.

Sirius flinched.

Because of Remus.

God, he felt horrible. This was one thing Remus was afraid of. One thing he always had wanted to avoid with others; making them scared of him. He was already a monster enough, why give another reason to be seen as one?

He and Sirius were arguing, like they did any other week, though it was a bit more heated this time. And, as if Sirius flinching wasn't bad enough, they happened to be arguing because Sirius had a hard time opening up about his home life. Somewhere in the middle of the argument Remus threw his hands up, a mere frustrated gesture, but then Sirius jerked his body back and shut his eyes tight.

Everything seemed to freeze, because Sirius had never flinched at something Remus had done. Remus stared at him a moment, still partially processing what just happened, when Sirius opened his eyes and had had the worst facial expression Remus ever wanted to see on the boy. He looked, well, terrified for a good few seconds before finally straightening up.
