Greeting

The afternoon had been going badly since early on. Giulia hadn't wanted to take a nap, she had cried during lunch, and now, as the afternoon wore on, she was going through the most chaotic moment of the day.

Barbara was hurriedly preparing a cake in the kitchen while trying to keep the little girl from getting between her legs. Giulia was pacing back and forth, dragging a small stool that made a terrible noise against the wooden floor.

—Giulia, my love, don't make so much noise—Barbara asked from the counter—. Daddy's recording in the studio.

The little girl looked at her, hesitated… and pushed the stool even harder.

"Giulia, stop!" Barbara insisted, putting the knife down on the board.

But it was too late. The little stool wobbled, the girl lost her balance and fell on her bottom. She wasn't hurt, but the crying started automatically. And it was heartbreaking.

Guido stormed out of the studio, headphones hanging around his neck and his face looking distraught.

"What's going on now, man?! I've been trying to record for an hour!" he exploded, looking first at Barbara, and then at the little girl. "Giulia, stop it! You can't be such a pain in the ass all day! Stop misbehaving!"

When the little girl saw him like that, she burst into even louder tears. Her eyes were overflowing, her body tense, her cheeks wet.

"Guido!" Barbara stopped him, approaching him immediately. "Don't yell at her like that!"

—She never stops for a second! You can't live like this! She throws everything, screams, cries, breaks things!

Giulia covered her face with her hands, sobbing breathlessly, hidden behind the little bench as if her own dad were a monster.
