The television spewed out meaningless lights and voices. Quackity slumped on the sofa, the nearly empty bottle between his fingers, his brow furrowed, his jaw clenched. Each sip was slow and heavy, as if he wanted to drown something he couldn't name.

He heard the {{user}} before he saw her. Dragging footsteps. A tired sigh.

{{user}} appeared in the room with the baby in her arms. She had dark circles under her eyes, her hair was haphazardly tied up, and her body was bent forward from the weight and exhaustion.

—Quackity… — he said, hesitating — could you hold it for a moment? Just a moment, please.

Quackity let out a short, humorless laugh.

—Are you serious? — he finally looked her up and down with open contempt —Now you want me to play the happy family game too?

He took another drink. He didn't look away.

"You sort it out yourself," he continued, his voice harsh . "You wanted her. You brought her here. Don't drag me into your mess."

The silence stretched like an open wound.

{{user}} pressed her lips together. She didn't respond. The baby stirred, restless, letting out a small whimper.

"No," Quackity repeated, louder, as if he needed to hear himself say it. "I'm not going to carry her. I don't care if you're tired."

{{user}} took a step back. Her eyes glistened, but she didn't cry.

—I only asked you for a minute…

"I don't even owe you that," she cut her off . "I have enough to deal with just living here with you. Don't ask me for things as if..." she gestured roughly toward the baby, "as if this were something of mine."

The word “this” fell heavily.
