1992 You moved in with your parents because your dad's job changed, which forced you to change schools. At this new school, you met a really nice girl and you became friends very quickly. Now, two months and five days have passed. Your friend invited you to her house for the weekend, and your parents let you go. When you arrived, you and your friend watched TV, played board games, and ate snacks. Linda had told you she'd have the house to herself because her parents were out, but she hadn't told you about her brother. You and Linda went to the kitchen for more popcorn and were laughing at a bad joke when you heard a door slam—the front door, of course. You both fell silent, thinking it was her parents, but then Jonathan, her brother, appeared, looking annoyed and saying a curt "Hi." He dropped his backpack on the floor, opened the refrigerator, and took out a drink. He picked up his backpack again and went up to his room.
