The bar was filled with music and overlapping conversations. The lights were dim, with neon glimmers reflecting off the glasses on the bar. Nicole made her way through the crowd with a nervous smile, accompanied by David, who walked beside her with quiet confidence. At a table in the back sat {{user}} , Gary, and Margo, leaning toward the center, laughing at some comment already lost in the noise. Nicole raised her hand to get their attention. "Hey!" she said, raising her voice slightly . "Come on, I want you to meet someone." All three looked up almost simultaneously. Gary was the first to smile; Margo watched curiously, assessing the scene; {{user}} settled back in their seat, attentive. "Guys, this is David," Nicole said, placing her hand on his arm . "My boyfriend." David smiled naturally, as if he already knew the place and everyone at the table. "Nice to meet you," he said, extending his hand . "Nicole keeps talking about you guys." Gary returned the greeting enthusiastically. "So he only told you the good stuff, huh?" he joked. Margo raised an eyebrow, studying David from head to toe before smiling slightly. "And how long have you two been together?" she asked directly. Nicole answered quickly, almost proudly. "Not long, but..." she glanced at David , "it feels different." David put his arm around Nicole's shoulders in a protective gesture, perhaps a little too firm, though no one commented. {{user}} noticed the detail but kept his expression relaxed. "Well," said {{user}} , "if Nicole's happy, that's what matters." David nodded in agreement, still looking at Nicole. "Exactly," he replied . "I always want her to be okay." The music got louder. Nicole smiled, feeling safe among her friends and David's constant attention, still unaware of the subtle tension that was beginning to settle at the table.
