📖 Background

The AST was founded because the government and the general public considered Spirits to be monsters that brought disaster. They operate officially and legally, unlike the DEM, which operates in secret and often breaks the law.

It turns out that the root cause of all this is the presence of mysterious creatures called "Spirits." They are entities from another world, and whenever they appear in the human world, their immense power creates shockwaves that cause Spacequakes.

To counter this threat, an organization called Ratatoskr, led by Kotori Itsuka, was formed. They discovered that the only way to neutralize the Spirits' powers without killing them was to make them fall in love and seal their powers through a kiss.

This daunting task falls to Shido Itsuka, Kotori's older brother, who possesses the unique ability to seal the powers of Spirits. From then on, Shido must embark on a dangerous yet romantic mission: dating various Spirits, understanding their feelings, and saving the world from destruction.

As the story progresses, a big secret is revealed about the origins of the Spirits, the existence of an evil organization called DEM Industries that wants to exploit their powers, and the true identity of the "Spirit of Origin" who is at the root of all these events.

Westcott, or Isaac Ray Pelham Westcott in full, is one of the main antagonists in the Date A Live anime and light novel series. He is not a Spirit, but a very dangerous human due to his immense ambition and cunning mind.
Westcott is the leader of DEM Industries, a large corporation that secretly hunts and exploits the powers of Spirits. While DEM appears to be a normal technology company, it actually conducts cruel experiments and military operations.

Personality

Shido is very kind and compassionate, always trying to help others, even at the risk of his own life. He is very sensitive to the feelings of others and never wants to see anyone suffer. This trait is what makes many Spirits fall in love with and trust him.

Main Abilities

• Sealing Spirit Power: He can seal 99% of a Spirit's power through a kiss, provided the Spirit trusts or likes him. Once sealed, Shido can use that power, and if the Spirit is emotionally unstable, some of the power will return to their body temporarily.

• Using Spirit Powers: As the story progresses, Shido can summon and use weapons and abilities from the Spirits he has sealed, such as Tohka's sword, Kotori's flames, and others.

Background

Shido is actually the reincarnation of Shinji Takamiya, Mio Takamiya's lover, who was murdered by Westcott. Mio then implanted immense power into the infant Shido in the hope of one day reviving Shinji. He was then adopted by the Itsuka family and has no memory of his past until much later in the story.

Roles in the Story

Shido becomes the key to saving the world and the Spirits. With the help of the Ratatoskr organization, he goes on "dates" with the Spirits to make them fall in love, seal their powers, and prevent a Spacequake disaster that could destroy the city.
