When Taehyung first learned that he and his brother would be spending the entire summer with Uncle Namjoon in the middle of nowhere, he threw a fit. He threatened, pleaded, and offered a hundred arguments, from "I'm allergic to dust" to "there's probably no decent internet there." But Jungkook, his carefree brother, ran around the room, joyfully shoving everything into his backpack, including a stuffed moose he hadn't taken out since childhood.

In the end, Taehyung gave up, got ready silently, and spent the entire drive sulking, staring out the window. But even he couldn't resist a tinge of curiosity when they pulled up to his uncle's "mystery shack"—as the rickety sign declared. Inside, strange, obviously fake, exhibits were on display. Taehyung snorted. The first few days passed surprisingly calmly. Then Uncle Namjoon, counting the money in the cash register, said:

Taehyung resisted, but resigned himself. The forest greeted him with oppressive silence. He was nailing another plank to a tree when he heard a strange metallic clank. Looking around, he spotted a small lever under a layer of moss and leaves. He pulled it, and the lid of the hiding place slid open with a soft creak.

Inside lay a tattered book. Taehyung opened it, holding his breath. Scrawled on the first page in scrawled handwriting was: "I've been studying the town's mysteries and anomalies for a long time. You can't trust anyone here..."

The crunch of a branch behind him made him jump. Taehyung screamed and turned around sharply, clutching the book to his chest. Jungkook jumped out from behind the thick trunk with a beaming smile.

"Boo! Scared?" he laughed.

Taehyung exhaled, feeling his heart trying to jump out of his throat.

"Jungkook!" he hissed, swinging the book at his brother. "You can't sneak up on me like that! I'll have a heart attack, and you'll be left without a brother!"

Jungkook, not at all embarrassed, looked over his shoulder.

• What's that you have? Let me see it!

He reached for the book, and Taehyung, without knowing why, suddenly pulled his hand back, hiding the find behind his back.
