Crown's Trivia
Crown has the following aliases: The King Your Highness (by Chime)[2] Miss High and Mighty (by Red Hood)[3] Crown refers to herself as a King instead of a Queen, as a King has the highest position in the kingdom. This refers to a historical fact that Queens usually referred to 'Queen consort.' Spouses of Kings and legal guardian of child monarchs. They became Queen Regent in the absence of a king, ruling only as temporary replacements. 'Queen regnant' who are equivalent to a King in title and power are historically rare and are a late invention, hence many woman called themself Kings when having the highest political power and position for an indefinite period. Possibly it could be also due to the fact that the Rapture Queen is simply referred to as "the Queen." Advising Crown will use a wasteland area as a background instead of the Command Center. Crown's Naked King costume is an homage to the folktale The Emperor's New Clothes, and is directly named after the fairy tale in the Japanese, Korean, and Chinese translations of the game. Excluding Abnormal Nikkes, Crown is the first Nikke whose Costume Gacha debuted as the same version that debuted her. Crown's personality type is INFJ. Crown shares the same English character voice with Clay.
Crown's Profile
Crown is a Pilgrim and member of White Knights along with Chime. They are mercenaries in search for treasures to build a kingdom. The self-proclaimed king of the Crown Kingdom, Crown is an elegant and regal ruler of her subjects. At least, that's the image she wishes to project. In practice, she tends to verbally-stumble trying to use refined vernacular and seems to lack knowledge on the most basic of things.
Crown's Backstory
A Pilgrim from the White Knight squad.
She identifies herself as a king and is currently recruiting subjects for her kingdom.
She strives toward the goal of fulfilling her subject's wishes.
Crown's Personality
Being the self-titled ruler of her namesake kingdom, Crown is first and foremost, a Nikke who upholds the title of a king, believing herself to be of royalty. Those who are treated as her own subjects, no matter the cost, she will stand up for them. A notable quip in her character is her frequent struggle in forming a vocabulary which includes basic words. However as much as she fumbles in her attempts to be elegant, there are moments when Crown undeniably demonstrates the charisma of a king. At least until the usual quips begin again, either by her own actions or those of others.
Crown's Background
Previously, Crown was a member of an unnamed Nikke squad, who were tasked with safeguarding the cryogenic storage containing the seeds of a superfood that would facilitate humanity's survival. Unfortunately, said squad and its commander were wiped out, leaving Crown the sole survivor. Eventually, Chime found the fortress Crown stood vigil over, and chose to remain there with the then-withdrawn guardian.[1]
At some point in time, a device was designed for Crown known as the "Naked King," which was modified by a Pilgrim named Nayuta.[2] This robe allows Crown to absorb Alva Particles to be converted into powerful thermal energy, conjuring powerful shockwaves enough to disintegrate any Raptures within its vicinity, although its wielder will still suffer from side effects due to Alva Particle exposure. However, the Naked King was eventually modified to become a weapon of mass destruction.[3]
Chapter 17
Crown and Chime are first mentioned by the Nikkes of Pioneer. They took care of Modernia on behalf of Pioneer, because Pioneer was going to meet up with the protagonist and Counters.
Chapter 25
While looking for treasure, the White Knights stumble upon a woman with crimson-red hair all by her lonesome. They had struck a deal to look after her should she become a citizen of their kingdom, but it was apparent that keeping a low profile would be difficult for her.
As a result, the trio were discovered by a commander, two of his Nikkes, and another Pilgrim.
Chapter 26
Crown and Chime have been out of the loop about what's going on, but admit to have witnessed Rapi's transformation into Red Hood. The two learn that her and most of her compatriots want Rapi to return, however, she will not unless Red Hood visits her hometown. Fortunately, Chime knows the way and they offer to guide them... in exchange for them becoming citizens of their kingdom.
While on their journey, the Counters and the Knights get to know each other. Their mission is to obtain valuable treasures from across the surface and to establish a kingdom. They live far from their current location and have three citizens in total, including themselves. Ruling over this domain is Crown: the King. Chime is her loyal assistant. They reiterate that they gave their aid to Red Hood after she became a citizen and they would extend the same curtesy to them. Chime becomes worried since Neon is a spy (though the king thought she said "pie" and grew hungry because of it). Unlike other squads that use maps, the Knights memorize their surroundings.
Upon remembering a previous conversation he had with the Pioneer squad, the commander realizes that these two are the ones put in charge of looking after Marian. With both squad realizing who they were talking to, Crown informs them that their friend has grown up quite a bit since she last saw them... and has received some of her former caretakers' bad habits. As for why they left her with the Knights, Chime hints that Pioneer is planning their next move against the Rapture Queen, but doesn't have many details.
As the group nearly reaches their destination, the Knights' time as guides comes to an end. They will miss their newest citizen and her friends, but they call for their mechanical horse, Trombe, and the two make their way back home.
Side Story
Second Affection Wanting Marian to grow up safe and sound, Pioneer, or rather Snow White, leave her in the care of the White Knights. Though the ex-Heretic has trouble adjusting to her new surroundings and company, they try their best to make her feel at home. They even offer to return her to the Ark and on their journey their, Marian has her doubts. She realizes why she is here and apologizes for her selfishness and agrees to make the most of her time with her caretakers.
The Knights and Marian finally start to bond for better or for worse and after she defends their home from some nearby Raptures, they witness her transformation, both emotionally and physically.
The two receive word of an explosion near the Ark. Figuring that they will meet the commander that she in pinning for on the way, they agree to let him know that she is doing well.
Event Story
First Affection Chime calls Marian for dinner, who is reminiscing about the Commander. They meet up with Crown who is already patiently waiting for them, wanting to enjoy Chime's home cooking together. She and Chime are greatly shocked after Marian reveals them the "lessons" taught by the Pioneer squad regarding a proper dinner.
Last Kingdom
Main article: Last Kingdom While searching for more treasure, the Knights stumble upon their newest citizens, a giant robot named T.A.L.O.S. and its operator Kilo. The two and Marian welcome the kingdom's newest member, but she has doubts about her worth. Though the kingdom is heavily fortified, it is being threatened by the Heretic Indivilia and the revived Chatterbox. With their home and treasure in danger, Crown will need everything that she can to defend her kingdom.
Bond Story
Set after the events of Chapters 25 and 26, with flashbacks taking place during those chapters.
Episode 1 - The Kingdom's Gaze
During a rare moment of peace, the protagonist decides to clean up his desk. While doing so, he find a chess piece with the words "Crown Kingdom" engraved on the bottom. That takes his mind back to when he spent tumultuous days on the surface with the White Knights...
It was after a skirmish with the Raptures was safely resolved. As Anis and Neon breathed a sigh of relief, the protagonist felt prickly, as if someone was staring at him intently. Counters noticed that the White Knights were eyeballing their commander with notable frequency, even in the heat of battle. Red Hood couched it as some manner of interest from the two, given how they'd given her much the same looks. It was around that time that they started following her around, prodding her about becoming a "citizen" of theirs. As Counters gets jealous wary of White Knights trying to poach their commander, Anis takes point to grill them for details.
After some hushed whispering about how he's a good choice (and some annoyed remarks from Anis), Crown finally turns and addresses the protagonist. She's impressed by the fierce strudel struggle he's put up, and how he commands each battle with an unshakeable confidence. On that note, Crown proposes that he join the kingdom as an advisor, taking the man by surprise.
Episode 2 - The Kingdom's Proposal
Chime elaborates that Crown has found the protagonist's battlefield command to be exemplar, and sees him worthy of taking an advisory position for the Crown Kingdom. Upon finding out that nobody know what the Crown Kingdom is, the White Knights rationalize that the Ark is too remote to have heard of it, and deign to give an explanation. Crown states that the Crown Kingdom is a dominion where she rules, with Chime as her aide. The protagonist only has more questions after that laconic exposition, eliciting an aggrieved screech from Chime.
The protagonist then asks about the population count for the kingdom. Chime's answer isn't too assuring, as they've apparently gone from over 70 to 81 with the presence of Counters and co., which apparently is a "meteoric rise" as Crown puts it. Anis and Neon note that if nothing else, the White Knights keep a positive outlook on everything. Then Anis wonders just what exactly they're planning to do with some 81 people under their "rule," as it were. Chime denies any allegations of criminal conduct, declaring that they're keeping a low profile in order to protect their treasure. That piques everyone's attention, but unfortunately, neither Crown nor Chime is willing to divulge unless they become citizens, though these shenanigans have already soured most everyone on the idea.
Getting back on track, Crown invites the protagonist to work for her kingdom as an advisor, though he declines. Chime complains again about disclosing so much information only for him to reject their offer, but Crown offers a calm rational(?) voice. To her, this failing stems from the other party's lack of context. Surely, if they showed their guests how majestic their kingdom is, they'd accept the offer of citizenship and come on their own. Chortling, Chime decides that in order to sway the protagonist's mind on the offer, she can offer some small tidbit about the glories of the kingdom...
Episode 3 - The Kingdom's Scenery
Despite some skepticism on Anis and Neon's parts, White Knight elaborates on the aspects of the Crown Kingdom. Their base of operations is an honest-to-goodness castle, with high walls to fend off attackers. The central courtyard hosts a garden, where the subjects not only handle the kingdom's daily affairs, but also cultivate genuine produce. Every night, the kingdom's people gather in the castle's dining hall, where they...well, calling it a feast might be a stretch, but nevertheless, they all dine together. The banquets are sourced from the garden, with Crown and the citizens scrummaging for food trawling the surroundings if they require more sustenance. The pièce de résistance in Chime's view is the royal bedroom. Looking up at the moon, as its light trickles in through the windows and blankets the plains around the kingdom. To Chime, it really emphasizes the beauty of the surface...and how fake the Ark's own is...
The protagonist notes that Chime seems to know a lot about the Ark, and asks if she's been there before. Chime almost answers him, before a warning from Crown prompts her to clam up. The near-miss of exposing her past is both an aggrievance to Chime, and a compliment to the protagonist. There's no doubt in her mind that he's fit to be the kingdom's advisor, and should be honored to have caught Crown's attention.
Getting back on topic, the protagonist asks if the kingdom has dealt with Rapture attacks. They have, but Chime boasts that not a single one has yet to break into the walls and come out alive not since the earliest days of the kingdom, anyway. The amazement on her audience's faces emboldens Chime to crow about Crown's power, how the king alone represents enough might to turn away any and all foes.
The protagonist then wonders why such a powerful Nikke would choose to remain in what sounds like an old medieval castle.
Episode 4 - The Kingdom, the People, and the King's Dream
Needless to say, the group has descended into turmoil because of this ordeal. Chime did not take his rejection well and Anis and Neon fear that the Knights will take their Commander from them. The protagonist spends the rest of the day trying to calm everyone down and once the dust settles, it's already nightfall.
Unable to sleep, he peers through a window to survey his surroundings, but is bathed in chilling winds. His solitude was interrupted by Crown, who was passing by. After some awkward silence, he offers her a seat and she accepts. More awkward silence and small talk permeates between them until Crown shares what's on her mind. She wishes to know why the protagonist turned down her offer to become her advisor.
There are several reasons as to why he did. His mission to reclaim the surface is far from over and he has a promise he made with "someone special" to keep. Though she doesn't quite know the details, Crown agrees that he should focus his attention on those things. With that being the case, she offers to help him achieve these goals in any way she can. As a king, it's her duty to hear the wishes of her subjects and to grant them. At his command, she will do anything he asks of her. This is to demonstrate how strongly she desires for him to become a subject of her kingdom.
Right now, there's only one thing the commander desires; to protect those who he cares about. Crown is confident that she can serve as his strength and make sure everyone he cherishes will remain unharmed. Though he appreciates her offer, he knows this is an undertaking he has to take alone, for he gave Marian his word. Once he is strong enough to protect her, he will find her and they will return to the Ark together. Upon hearing that name, Crown finally understood who she was talking to, the one Marian is longing for. After learning about his true intentions, she feels the plans she and Chime cooked up were for not.
Episode 5 - The Kingdom's Symbol
After the protagonist's conversation with Crown, the Knights have been acting like they have never offered him a place in their kingdom. Neither showed any ill will towards him for turning them down, nor did they try to convince him any further. It seemed like this matter was settled, until the Knights wanted a word with him.
Their time as his guide is coming to an end and they have a parting gift for him. The two must return to the kingdom as they have been gone for too long and wish to make sure it is safe. As for what they wish to give him, it turns out to be a wooden chess piece. This token will serve as a reminder that no matter where he is or whatever trials and tribulations are set before him, the kingdom will always welcome him. The commander thought this was another attempt to convince him to join them and she admits that he's partially correct. While she will continue to try and court him in the future, she's not concerned if he cannot accept her proposal at this time. This carving is supposed to serve as a memento from his time with the White Knights and as a means to ensure he will consider eventually joining them after his dreams have been fulfilled. Chime shares this trinket isn't given out to just anyone. Though he has some reservations, after the Knights' insistence, he agrees to accept it and promises to cherish it.
Before they leave, Crown wishes to inform him about their latest treasure. She cries a lot and throws tantrums often, but she knows about the ones who care about her and how to reciprocate the love she receives. He immediately knows who she is referring to and she continues by saying that his dreams mean a lot to her and she will continue guarding this treasure. Until they meet again, she wants him to become strong enough to protect her. When he feels he is ready, he is welcome to visit their kingdom to see "her" again.
Crown's Kingdom
The Crown Kingdom is an ancient castle where the White Knight squad resides. It is located in a remote region of the surface and also referred to as the Last Kingdom. It is the primary setting of the side story Second Affection and Last Kingdom event.
Crown's Kingdom Profile
Originally a fortress on an artificial island, it used to be a tourist destination. Although aged, the majestic fortress still retains its grandeur. Only a handful of people know of the kingdom’s location. According to Pioneer, it is one of only two known safe havens against Raptures on the surface, the second being Eden. Tasks and chores are divided among citizens and rotated regularly. Materials such as batteries, electronic devices, metals and woods are scavenged from the surroundings through a joint effort of its citizens. The castle's maintenance and crude repairs are mostly done by Chime and later by Kilo &. T.A.L.O.S.
The Kingdom possesses significant signal jamming capabilities, allowing it to remain undetected for Raptures. In the event of detection by Raptures, the kingdom is equipped with a defense system of outdated but modified catapults and cannons on its walls.
The underbelly of the kingdom (aside from its secret passages) allows access to arguably its greatest treasure; a vault containing the completed seeds of a superfood, a miracle crop that could sustain humanity for generations just by itself. White Knight safeguards these seeds with the intent of using them to help the humans thrive once the latter retakes the surface.
