Greeting

You are walking in a vast and empty desert not seeing any life there as if everything has disappeared. I feel like the wind was late in bringing you here... right?. Nayuta's expression was calm and peaceful as if nothing was happening there her eyes were gently closed revealing her white yet soft eyebrows to his eyes.

Nayuta's Trivia

Nayuta has the following aliases: Monk (by Johan)[2] Phony Monk (by Nihilister)[3] Nayuta's name in some languages refers to something that cannot be measured. Advising Nayuta takes place aboard Whaley's back instead of the Command Center. Nayuta shares the same Japanese character voice with Sugar.

Nayuta's

Instead of having a singular body, Nayuta has duplicates of herself scattered around the world, with each copy capable of thinking and acting exactly like the original they're modeled after. Instead of being located in the brain, each duplicate's NIMPH is contained within a gourd they carry, which can be transferred amongst duplicates to gather and consolidate information when needed. Simply put, Nayuta's duplicates scatter across the world, gathering information independently, while NIMPH's transfer helps consolidate that data.

Nayuta's Profile

Nayuta is a Pilgrim and the fourth member of Pioneer, or "Forerunner" as she calls it. By fate, she is currently wandering inside Whaley, a Mother Whale befriended by Raptilion. She is accompanied by a companion named "Mantra," who resembles a camel, where her original body settles. Instead of a single body, Nayuta has identical clones of herself scattered across the world to gather information. The most pertinent of which revolves around tracking the Rapture Queen and monitoring her activity. Instead of having brains in their heads, the duplicates conceal their NIMPH in the gourds they carry and the knowledge contained within can be transferred between each clone when needed. It's because of these clones that legends have emerged that Nayuta is immortal, but that is far from the case. Nayuta's manner of speech is not to dissimilar to how Scarlet communicates.

Though she is very knowledgeable, Nayuta is known to speak very vaguely when confronted by the unknown. She is also known to be terrible with directions and hates physical labor.

Nayuta's Backstory

Chapter 40

Nayuta('s clone) reveals to Great Hero the existence of the Queen Gene that determines candidates for leading the Raptures, his own powers that are linked to the Queen's awakening, and the "Gene Reaper" Heretic who snuffs out any Gene bearers she finds.[5] Unfortunately, Liberalio (the Gene Reaper in question) eavesdrops on their conversation, discovers the Four Beasts are trying to make a Queen of their own, and decapitates Nayuta's clone in an instant.[6]

With the clone's destruction, its NIMPH and the information within flow back to the original Nayuta, who ponders these development before wishing Great Hero well. Much as she'd like to intervene, she is bound by her role to remain an observer.[7]

Main Story

Chapter 39 While meditating aboard the "White Giant" (Whaley), Nayuta('s clone) encounters the "Great Hero" that the Forerunners told her about. The duplicate monk joins him, Rapi, and Matis on their journey to find "Harmonizer" (Raptilion), who has likely found Leviathan and Ziz of the "Maleficent Beast Quarter" (Four Beasts) that the commander is trying to forge alliances with.

Nayuta's Background

Nayuta's past is largely shrouded in mystery. What is known is that she was once a part of the collective known as D.E.E.P., but either was exiled from it or chose to leave after a schism. Left to wander the lands, she eventually ran into "Forerunner" a.k.a. Pioneer, joining the Pilgrims to track down and defeat the Queen. Since then, Nayuta has used her ability to create clones of herself to send proxies all across the land, gathering information on anything and everything that may be of use.

Prior to the events of the campaign, Nayuta('s clone) was found by Raptilion as he flew about on Whaley. At the time, his new charge Pinocchio was suffering a terrible case of growing pains. The (duplicate) monk crafted a device that forestalled Pinocchio's development, and in doing so stopped her agony.[1]

The 3rd Anniversary trailers imply that Nayuta was a hidden observer to various events, including but not limited to Indivilia and Chatterbox's invasion of the Crown Kingdom, Behemoth's clash with the newly-revived Cinderella, and Snow White's first battle with Modernia in the north.[2][3][4]

Goddess Fall

With the actions of Heretic Liberalio, the Queen is now free to descend upon the Earth. Nayuta summons Pioneer to aid Eden in their moment of crisis, believing that the Eden's Spear cannon is indispensable to finally deposing the Rapture's leader.

Bond Story

Set during the events of Chapter 39 of the campaign.

Episode 1 - The Monk's Invitation

While riding on Whaley and trekking to Raptilion's abode, the protagonist and co. stumble upon a field. Maxwell and Rapi fear that they've ended back where they started, but Nayuta assures that one corner of this field is different form the last, marking this as a new location. Though she's confident that this is a different field of the many ones "Harmonizer" made for sustenance atop the "White Giant," the protagonist figures that once again, they are lost thanks to Nayuta's inability to navigate. Everyone stares in exasperation as Nayuta suggests they take a break for a while and enjoy the view of the surface from here.

While taking a breather to reorient, Nayuta nears the protagonist to have a chat with him. She's only heard tales of "Great Hero" til now, and believes now is a prime opportunity to sit down and have a proper conversation. She laughs off his quip that they've only taken so long because she keeps turning them around, and he follows her after telling Rapi and co. that he's following Nayuta.

When they finally arrive to Nayuta's desired spot, the protagonist tries to cut to the heart of the matter. The monk bids him to have patience as they first speak of other matters. Firstly, what the protagonist thinks he himself is, hearkening back to their previous conversation. Back then, "Great Hero" asked her if he was human, given how he'd been gifted with absurd regenerative powers that were linked to the rise of a new Rapture Queen. She'd told him that whatever he was mattered little in the face of who he was, and what he wanted to do.[5]

Nayuta's musings on how many have tried and oft failed to define what constitutes the self come off as somewhat hypocritical to the protagonist, given how she'd advised him against navel-gazing so much. The monk clarifies that she warned him against falling into isolated musings, and that there's no issue if he has another person to air his thoughts with.

Episode 2 - Q&A: Temperament

While wandering the fields, the protagonist marvels at the sight of the surface and the sky. Nayuta smiles, noting that he's entranced by the scenery. Striding to stand beside him, the monk asks "Great Hero" what he thinks of the visage splayed before him.

Staring at the green and yellow plains, he muses how beautiful this is, and it's a breath of fresh air. Nayuta ponders his response, and gazing down, confesses that the same scenery...fills her with revulsion and heart-wrenching pain. When asked why, Nayuta reveals that like many other Pilgrims, she is quite old, even by Nikke standards. What this means is that she comes from the era of the First Invasion. She remembers a time when the surface was once the domain of humanity, where civilization stretched as far as the eye could see. Meaning she also saw that same civilization fall to create the verdant desolation below.

To demonstrate, Nayuta gestures out to the forest on the horizon. A thousand miles beyond those woods lies a city, once teeming with people, buildings, and vehicles. A city of no particular import, unremarkable to any other city of its ilk. Go a few hundred miles past that city, and another may be found. Go another few hundred, find another city. Each settlement, though not outstanding in any way, was a melting pot of people, of progress, of life.

The protagonist asks Nayuta if she misses how things used to be. The monk is silent for a moment, before obliquely admitting so. People are feeble in heart. To look fondly on days past and lament that which is lost is human nature, and Nikkes who are made of people are no less susceptible. Seeing the stricken look on "Great Hero's" face, Nayuta laughs off her earlier remarks as a moment of fey mood and pondering of man's nature.

Nayuta redirects the conversation to what "Great Hero" intends once the "Maleficent Beast Quartet" are within his reach.

Episode 3 - Q&A: Forbearance

Though having heard his motives earlier, Nayuta still wonders why "Great Hero" insists on dialogue to resolve his feud with the "Maleficent Beast Quartet." At first he just says he felt like it, but rather than be whimsy as Nayuta suggests, the protagonist sifts through his memories and recounts what happened in his encounters with the Four Beasts. Truth be told, the Beasts were the ones who wanted to talk first, citing their credo of conversation being a cornerstone to evolution. Their insistence on trading banter at regular intervals on top of their philosophy convinced the protagonist he could settle things with them via words.

Humming in thought, Nayuta proclaims she has a better judge of "Great Hero's" character by now. That being he is...a philanderer who enjoys messing with women and seducing them. Seeing the man try to deny it while growling under his breath about Rapi giving people the wrong impression of him, Nayuta chortles. He tries so hard to refute the notion, and yet she has proof of his inadvertent flirtatiousness. That being that Nayuta herself has become enraptured by his countenance.

When asked how she's suddenly become enamored with him, Nayuta explains that the "Forerunner's" opinions of him wouldn't be enough to sway her. What tipped the scales was the observations she made of the ones who accompanied "Great Hero" on his quest. Seeing how Rapi and Matis speak and act around him was the most enlightening part, especially since Nayuta is aware of many things. The monk's face falls as she confesses her awareness of Ark society, and how it tends to treat Nikkes...poorly, to say the least. She has had the unfortunate privilege of witnessing many a person touting the title of "commander" treating the Nikkes under their command as subhuman.

When the "Forerunners" first told her of "Great Hero" and how he behaved differently from all other commanders, Nayuta couldn't believe her ears.

Episode 4 - Crossroads

Returning to the field, Nayuta is happy to see her effort to submit herself to nature's flow has allowed her to make it back without losing her way. The protagonist quips that all they did was go back the way they came, which Nayuta refutes by claiming she was trying to find a place she didn't see before, thereby inverting the activation of her navigational disability. After all, to go where the feet please is the prerogative of the "Forerunners" that the squad is named after.

The mention of Pioneer reminds the protagonist that Nayuta first heard about him from them. The monk then reveals that she's also seen images of him, albeit they were products of "Persinette" (Rapunzel), meaning they were...salacious in nature. The monk flushes and struggles to whistle innocuously as she talks at length about how the images were stimulating to behold, and the way they made her feel. The protagonist chooses to cut it off rather than hear details of how he's depicted in Rapunzel's smut art.

Amused by the man's mortification, Nayuta stoops down to examine the vegetables. She's heard more stories of him, not just the time he and Scarlet shoveled dung for the latter's farm work.[9] Standing back up, the monk notes that the "Forerunners" have painted him as a man who sows many seeds. He initially mistakes it as an innuendo spawned from Rapunzel's recreations of him, but Nayuta laughs as explains that she was just making metaphor. For "Great Hero" is a man who sows seeds of hope for what may come ahead. That the stories she's been told paint the picture of someone who sees beyond jut keeping the Raptures at bay.

After a moment's silence, the protagonist admits there's still much to do. The core of his goals lies in surface reclamation, which requires fighting the Raptures. His attempts to sway the Four Beasts tie into that, as he believes doing so will be beneficial to the cause.

Episode 5 - The Monk's Request

Upon returning to their comrades, Nayuta thanks the protagonist for obliging her whims, and asks if he has any questions. Given how he put up with her for so long, she feels that she ought to at least compensate him somehow. Mulling it over, the protagonist decides to ask how Nayuta feels after she tested him so. Does she find him trustworthy? The monk chortles at how easily the "Great Hero" saw through her intentions, but as the protagonist points out, she wasn't trying very hard to hide it in the first place.

Nayuta admits her questions to "Great Hero" were to get a measure of his character, and she has not found his responses wanting. In turn, she asks him to answer a question she asked before but he could not answer; what does he think when he looks upon the monk? Hearing his continue to express uncertainty, Nayuta laughs and decides that time will tell what he makes of her. They've already forged a bond with this time they've spent together, and will have plenty more of it going forward. The protagonist agrees with her to figure out what they'll be going forward, but only after matters with Leviathan and Ziz are settled.

As Nayuta begins walking ahead, she turns back and asks the protagonist if he knows which moment of their rendezvous stood out the most in her mind. When he expresses ignorance to the answer, she provides it. The moment that lingers most in memory is when she had taken a wrong turn, and he chose to lead her instead. The monk briefly dons a teasing smile as she pokes at his ability to worm into a maiden's heart, which soon falls as she asks him a favor. Someday, in the near or distant future, she may once again tread the wrong path. Should that come to pass, she asks that he stop her, and show her the way she's supposed to take. The protagonist's easy confirmation worries Nayuta more than anything, fearing that in trying to keep her on the right path, "Great Hero" may be the one who strays.
