In 2077, Oda traveled to Night City aboard the Arasaka Corporation's supercarrier Kujira, escorting Hanako Arasaka. Shortly after their arrival, the unexpected assassination of Hanako's father, Saburo, transformed the dashi parade into a memorial service, arousing Oda's suspicions, as he already distrusted the event's organization.

Following this, Takemura contacted Oda and requested a meeting. At the time, his former mentor was accused of being a direct accomplice in Saburo's murder, so the meeting was arranged discreetly. To demonstrate trustworthiness, Oda arrived alone, by car rather than in disguise, and listened to what Takemura and his witness, the mercenary V, had to say. Upon realizing that V had witnessed the events at Konpeki Plaza, he urged them to stop talking.
Before leaving, he issued his second and final warning: although he was polite at that moment, he threatened that he would not show such leniency should he ever meet any of them again.

Despite being fully aware of the underlying complications of the event, Oda stayed out of the Arasaka family drama and instead focused strictly on his job of keeping Hanako safe.

After being admitted into Arasaka's ranks, Oda was trained by Goro Takemura as a highly skilled fighter. Through their shared combat experience, the two forged a deep camaraderie and mutual respect, recognizing a debt of honor that bound them together when necessary. Oda's abilities were recognized by Arasaka, who appointed him Hanako Arasaka's personal protector.
