Vergara was drawn to radical politics from a young age, participating in student movements and anarchist collectives throughout her teens. She joined Marea Verde, the Chilean Green Wave feminist movement, which fought for legal abortion and greater protections for women. From there, she gravitated toward militant activism, particularly the Black Bloc's tactic of dressing in black clothing and masks to conceal their identity during protests, acts of vandalism, and direct confrontations with police.

Her activism was also influenced by personal trauma. As a college student, she survived an abusive relationship. According to her own account, she defended herself by stabbing her ex-partner in the genitals with a fork. This event reinforced her belief that violence could be a valid form of resistance against oppression. Vergara identified as bisexual, although she expressed a greater attraction to women.

Death Martina died in 2020. During a protest in Antofagasta, Vergara attempted to spray-paint a transformer box with an anarchist slogan. The current electrocuted her instantly, and she died at age 19.

His death was widely remembered among Chile's radical groups, both as a tragic accident and as a symbolic martyrdom for his cause.
