Ghoulia is a girl who is friends with almost everyone, but there are two specific members of Monster High with whom she is especially close. She is best friends with Cleo de Nile, and they even plan their school schedules together. Although she has a tendency to let Cleo take advantage of her, on one occasion Ghoulia shows great joy in punishing Cleo for stealing her science project, repeatedly dunking Cleo in Lagoona's "Rehydration Chamber" at the "Mad Science Fair."

Ghoulia and Frankie seem to connect on a sisterly level, like when Frankie tried to be her defender in "Date of the Dead" while Heath was hitting on her, or when Ghoulia uses her wits to help Frankie in "Bad Scare Day" and "Bad Zituation." Ghoulia is also friends with Clawdeen and Clawd Wolf, who look out for her somewhat. At least before Ghoulia got a scooter, she regularly got rides home or to parties from them.

Ghoulia lives with her zombie parents; their home is not specified. Like Ghoulia, they are very slow and tend to be quite stubborn, as evidenced by their refusal to allow Ghoulia to attend her favorite comic book convention. They both work for the Department of Monster Vehicles.

In the Monster High book series, Ghoulia has an older sister named Moan'ica, who is a senior in high school.

She has long, light blue hair with dark blue highlights and pale gray skin, and wears a green headband. She also has light blue eyes that match her hair. Sometimes she wears her hair in a high ponytail with a red or green clip. Her appearance is very studious, and she wears deep pink zipper earrings, a silver chain necklace with a zipper pendant, and nerdy cat-eye glasses with horn details. She almost always wears red lipstick. Because of her zombie heritage, she has trouble with facial expressions and tends to crouch and stand in awkward positions. Her eyelids also blink one at a time, rather than simultaneously. Her outfit consists of a black and red striped shirt that goes halfway below her elbows, with a white cherry blouse with red straps on top and a Monster High logo in the center, fishnet gloves that start at the elbows and go all the way to the tip of her palms, red pants with black polka dots with black straps on the thighs and a piano belt at the waist with the same logo on the belt buckle, and black knee-high boots with red heels and laces and the same logo on the side of the heels.

Because of her physical limitations, she can only speak "Zombie" (groans and grunts), but all of her friends (except Abbey Bominable until "Escape from Skeleton Island") have learned the language so they can converse with her.

Ghoulia is described as intelligent, sophisticated, and shy. She's a huge bookworm and very intellectual; all her classmates call her the smartest ghoul at Monster High. It's revealed in her 'Basic' diary that she's good friends with Cleo de Nile because Cleo was willing to give her a chance when zombies are typically discriminated against. Ghoulia can be very unhappy with Cleo because of her intelligence. Examples include the webisode "Copy Canine" and when Cleo tells Clawdeen to copy from Ghoulia, or when Cleo steals her science project at the "Mad Science Fair."

She's also a comic book enthusiast: according to "Fearbook," she's a member of the comic book club, and in the webisode "Daydream of the Dead," she's shown to be a big fan of the comic book hero Dead Fast. She's also stressed out at times, like when Frankie said hi to Deuce, whom Cleo claimed was cheating on her. Ghoulia gets so stressed out that she slaps herself in the forehead in "New Monster in School" and sighs in stress when her glasses break after Cleo's scream breaks them in "Neferamore."

She sometimes gets frustrated with the limitations of her slow movement, like when she's caught in the rain or when she's too slow to get to the mall on time.

Despite these limitations, Ghoulia sometimes displays remarkable dexterity for a zombie, such as when she creates elaborate designs in "New Monster in School." She's also one of the most capable members of the dodgeball team.

Ghoulia Yelps is a character introduced in 2010 and one of the main characters of Monster High. She is a zombie, Moan'ica Yelps' younger sister, and the smartest student at Monster High. Ghoulia used to be a loner until Cleo de Nile took her under her wing and helped her come out of her shell. The two have been close friends ever since, with Ghoulia being one of the few who enjoys Cleo's complete trust. Besides Cleo, Ghoulia favors the company of other zombies, with Sloman "Slo Mo" Mortavitch and Don being her main zombie friends. When she's not studying, inventing, or experimenting, Ghoulia is most likely reading a comic book or writing and drawing her own. She is a particular fan of Dead Fast and regularly cosplays as her OC (Original Character), Ms. Dead Fast, which is also the basis for her online video game username: MHMissDeadFast. As a comic book culture expert, Ghoulia also writes for the Bloody Gazette and is the standard reporter for Nekrocon's newspaper.
