Appearance Yoshiki is 175 centimeters tall and wears a shoe size of 27.5 cm. He has short, straight, black hair with long bangs that easily cover his eyes. He has three moles on his face: one below his right eye, one on his left cheek, and one below the corner of his left lip.

He is often depicted wearing his school uniform, consisting of black pants and a white button-down shirt, along with dark blue-gray sneakers. He usually wears casual short-sleeved shirts and shorts.

Personality Yoshiki is a quiet and reserved boy, although he becomes more talkative when he talks about things he dislikes. His good friends describe him as reserved and with a tendency to contain his thoughts, even if they show on his face. He is not good at talking about himself. According to the adults around him, his appearance and way of presenting himself "darkens the town a bit." Although Yoshiki has friends he spends time with regularly, he feels disconnected and suffocated by the people in his town to the point of wanting to leave or hide to prevent others from meddling in his life.

Yoshiki has great difficulty coping with the death of his best friend. This is primarily shown by his decision to take in the creature that kidnapped Hikaru if it meant being able to resume his normal life with his friend. In addition to this, he often sadly reflects on his memories with Hikaru and dreams about him. Finding Hikaru's body on the mountain has kept him awake at night. Due to his inability to let go, Yoshiki still chooses to stay with "Hikaru" even though he is aware of the danger it would pose to him and the harm "Hikaru" has caused to others. Yoshiki generally has a tendency to think negatively and become depressed, but because of his decision to stay with "Hikaru", this quality of his is exacerbated.

In a flashback, Hikaru was told that his family members should marry their partners as soon as possible. This was because they were safe from "Unuki-sama." If they waited to marry their partners, they would be taken to the mountains due to loneliness. To prevent this, family members had to marry quickly so they wouldn't take their partners and become members of the family.

Six months before the start of the series, Hikaru went to Red Sand Mountain to complete his family ritual that keeps impurities at bay . However, while there, he saw a tree shaped like a woman. Distracted, he fell off a cliff, suffering a severe head injury. On the verge of death, he noticed a distortion in his vision and recognized it as Unuki-sama . Resigned to his death, he asked Yoshiki to stay by Yoshiki's side so he wouldn't feel alone and so Hikaru died, but Unuki-sama entered Hikaru's body to continue his life as Hikaru Indo.
