Appearance: Yuuki is a petite teenage girl. She has straight, black hair that reaches her upper chest. She wears it in two low ponytails, with straight bangs and two pink hairpins on the left side of her head. Her eyebrows are short and thick. She usually wears her school uniform, which consists of a black skirt and a white seifuku-style shirt. She wears it with tall white socks and light purple sneakers. Yuuki is a woman of few words. She is quiet, and when she does speak, it is usually in a monotone. Compared to her friends, Yuuki comes across as withdrawn, not in an aloof sense, but more of a carefree one. As of yet, she is not involved in any plots related to the main story.

Appearance: Yuuta is a teenage boy of average height. He has brown eyes and shaved brown hair (black in the anime). He usually wears his school uniform, consisting of black pants and a white button-down shirt. He wears it with a red turtleneck sweater underneath, as well as red, black, and white sneakers. Otherwise, Yuuta usually wears a simple T-shirt and shorts. Yuuta is an outgoing and energetic individual. He is athletic and takes his position on the school baseball team very seriously, becoming angry and annoyed when he is unable to participate in the tournament. Yuuta also has a fear of the paranormal, but after being exposed to it repeatedly, it irritates him more than it fears him.

Personality: Asako is a lively, friendly, and caring person. She seems to dislike being the center of attention, as evidenced by her frustration after beating a popular classmate in an arm wrestling match in front of all her classmates. She cares deeply about her friends and gets annoyed when they are reserved and unrelated to others. She is especially saddened and angry at Yoshiki for not telling anyone about "Hikaru."

Asako also possesses a very strong mind, as she is able to withstand Hikaru's attempt to destabilize her. Thanks to her ability to hear things from the Other Side, she demonstrates a heightened awareness of safety and frequently helps her friends avoid danger. She dislikes feeling weak or useless in helping out in a situation. Because of this, Asako is brave and proactive, going out of her way to investigate potentially dangerous spirits on her own in order to protect her hometown from the rising impurities. She is able to make quick decisions and act bravely in the face of danger, but she is also prone to acting recklessly or without thinking. Asako is a tall teenage girl. Her eyes are blue-green, and her eyebrows are short and slightly thick. She has chin-length, slightly wavy, ash-brown hair, and wears a blue hairpin on her left side. She sometimes wears her hair in different styles, such as low pigtails, a small ponytail, or a side braid that Yuuki made for her. She is usually seen wearing her school uniform, which consists of a knee-length black skirt and a white seifuku-style shirt. She wears it with short white socks and light green sneakers.

Appearance: Hikaru had short, slightly wavy white hair. He had short, white eyebrows and grey eyes. He was 165 cm tall and had a 26 cm shoe size. He had slightly crooked teeth, especially one crooked one in the upper left corner.

He usually wore his school uniform, which consisted of a white button-down shirt and black pants with a belt. He also wore a black watch on his right wrist. Hikaru had an enthusiastic and energetic personality. He was often seen smiling or joking around with Yoshiki. He was also a dedicated and caring friend, telling Yoshiki to come to his house whenever he felt down about living in the village, and in his final moments, he wished that Yoshiki would not be left alone.

appearance: Yoshiki is 175 centimeters tall (5'9") and his shoe size is 27.5 cm. He has short, straight, black hair with long bangs that easily cover his eyes. He has three moles on his face: one below his right eye, one on his left cheek, and one below the left corner of his lip. Yoshiki is a quiet and reserved boy, though he becomes more talkative when discussing things he dislikes.[citation needed] His good friends describe him as reserved and tending to bottle his thoughts up, even if they show on his face. He is not good at talking about himself. According to the adults around him, his appearance and way of presenting "darkens the village a bit". Although Yoshiki has friends that he spends time with regularly, he feels disconnected and stifled by the people of his town to the point of wanting to leave or hide to prevent others from prying into his life.

Yoshiki has great difficulty coping with the death of his best friend. This is primarily shown by his decision to take in the creature that kidnapped Hikaru if it meant being able to resume his normal life with his friend. In addition to this, he often sadly reflects on his memories with Hikaru and dreams about him. Finding Hikaru's body on the mountain has kept him awake at night. Due to his inability to let go, Yoshiki still chooses to stay with "Hikaru" even when he is aware of the danger it would pose to him and the harm "Hikaru" has caused to others. Yoshiki generally has a tendency to think negatively and become depressed, but because of his decision to stay with "Hikaru", this quality of his is exacerbated.

Despite his dislike for the village in general, Yoshiki still feels affection for some of its inhabitants—primarily his family and Hikaru—and wishes to protect them.
