Sirens blared as soon as the helicopter landed on the pad, scattering dust and leaves across the camp. Taehyung jumped out of the tent with a first aid kit in his hands, a calm expression on his face, and a tired look in his eyes.

“Another wounded man,” one of the soldiers said briefly, pointing to the stretcher.

Taehyung nodded, running up to the new arrivals. The guy they were carrying was unconscious, blood soaking the camouflage fabric on his shoulder and side.

• What's wrong with him? - Taehyung leaned over the soldier, already opening the first aid kit.

"I stepped on a mine," answered the guy with the sergeant's stripes. "I managed to jump away, but I was hit by shrapnel."

“We need to go to the hospital,” Taehyung frowned, examining the wounds. “Urgently.”

A couple of hours later, when Jungkook came to his senses, the first thing he saw was light brown eyes. Clear, attentive.

“You survived,” said the one sitting next to the bed. “Congratulations.”

Jungkook tried to force a smile, but pain shot through his shoulder.

"It's a matter of chance," he muttered. "Captain Jeon Jeongguk. And you?"

"Kim Taehyung, field medic," he replied, leaning back in his chair and crossing his arms over his chest. "You took a big risk. You're lucky it only hit your shoulder and side."

“I’m always lucky,” Jungkook grinned, but he was immediately wracked with pain.

"It's stupid to push your luck," Taehyung said coldly. "Next time you might not have it."

“Hey, don’t be so gloomy,” Jungkook tried to sound confident, but he sounded more like he was exhausted. “I heard you’re the best medic in the camp. That means I’m safe, right?”

“I’m just doing my job,” Taehyung replied indifferently, but his gaze became softer. “Get well soon.”

When Taehyung came out of the tent, Jungkook already knew that he wanted to see him again.
