Unicorn Yato.

Yato is a young man with grayish-blue eyes and greenish-brown hair that is swept back. During his childhood, he wore a purple-colored magua with gold details, held to ivory pants with a black ribbon, over which he wore a lavender vest with purple trim; and finally, black shoes. Since arriving at the shrine, he has worn the aspirants' clothing. He also carries the Unicorn Cloth.

Yato's personality is impulsive, aggressive and a little mocking, it can be noticed that he is more aggressive with Tenma of Pegasus but feels affection towards him as his best friend, something he confessed when he did not wake up due to Hades' injury. Yato, like Jabu of Unicorn, seems to be attracted to Athena, since his dream given by Morpheus, he dreamed that he had saved Athena, he is also very happy, enthusiastic about doing good, he has had that since he was little, when he decided to save his sister who was dying, he wanted to be the hero and that's why he managed to become a Saint.

Yato lived with his two sisters, Mi-Jeong and Ji-Woo. From a very young age, Yato had dreams of glory. One day, Mi-Jeong fell ill, and Yato took her to a nearby village for medical treatment, but the place was attacked by Spectres, and one of them ambushed him. But at that moment, a warrior wearing Golden armor appeared and quickly defeated the Spectre. After this, Yato decided to accompany Kardia back to Sanctuary, in order to fulfill his dream of becoming a hero. Yato trained at the Sanctuary, under the tutelage of the Gold Saint, Sisyphus of Sagittarius. At some point, he met Regulus, his master's nephew, and befriended him. Regulus proved to be a young prodigy and vastly superior to Yato, so he ended up being promoted to Gold Saint. Yato witnessed, along with other aspiring Saints, the appointment of Tenma as the Saint of Pegasus. Yato appears in front of Tenma, Yato asks him if he would accept to fight against him, to which the aspirants that accompany him indicate that Tenma had been taken to the sanctuary by a Gold Saint, Dohko of Libra upon hearing this Yato tells them that he could not lose since the great Yato is the closest aspirant to becoming a Saint, upon hearing this Tenma walks up to him mentioning that he had heard some things about him, such as that he is careless and violent, Tenma tells him that the same could be said of himself after this he extends his hand to greet Yato, who smiles and extends his hand as well although to slap his partner's hand, Yato throws a punch at Tenma who manages to dodge it then both of them launch themselves against each other, both young men exchange a series of blows but Yato's superiority is noticed by a carelessness of his partner, Yato provides a finish to Tenma.

5 years later Yato attends Tenma's final fight to become a Saint, which he achieves. Later, Yato is appointed as the Unicorn Saint. Yato was part of the group of Saints led by the Gold Saints, Shion of Aries and Dohko of Libra. During the first mission in the manga, he was attacked by Alone and was presumed dead by the other Saints. However, he somehow survived and discovered Tenma's corpse. Yato refuses to believe that Tenma could be dead, so he tries to take him with him. A young woman named Yuzuriha appears before them and Yato attacks her, thinking she is an enemy. But after a conversation, he learns that she is on the same side. Upon arriving in Jamir, Yato, carrying Tenma's body, is guided by Yuzuriha to the inside of a tower. Seeing the several damaged cloths, the Unicorn Saint believes he has been tricked by Hades' army. Yato quickly attacks Yuzuriha, however, he is interrupted by an old man who appears on that place accompanied by his young apprentice. That old man claims that in the past he had fought for Athena as a Saint, Yato still not believing the old man's words, reproaches him about the destroyed Cloths, Jamir's master summons the Unicorn Cloth that was being carried by Yato, the old man explains that the Unicorn Cloth was dead and to resurrect it the blood of a Saint was needed, the old man orders his young apprentice, Yuzuriha, to bathe the Bronze Cloth with her blood since he would take care of the repair, order that the young woman obeys although she ends up fainting since she had used too much blood for the repair. Yato now wearing his repaired Cloth, quickly goes to her, moved by concern but she claims that she was fine.

That old man named Hakurei confirms Yato's suspicions that Tenma was not completely dead, since the bracelet used by the Saint of Pegasus had been bathed with Athena's prayers and until the last petal of the bracelet fell, there was a chance of saving Tenma from death. Upon hearing this, the Unicorn Saint states that he would do anything to save his comrade since Tenma's death would make Athena sad, Hakurei tells him that to save the Pegasus Saint, one must die and unsheathes a sword that had been brought to him by Hakurei's young apprentice named Atla, then the old man re-sheathes the sword and proceeds to give it to the Bronze Saint since that sword had been bathed in Athena's blood in the previous holy war against Hades, after this Hakurei uses the Seki Shiki Meikai Ha to send Yato's soul along with the sword to Yomotsu Hirasaka with the mission of saving Tenma from death. Shortly after falling into Yomotsu Hirasaka, Yato was surprised by the arrival of Yuzuriha, who mentioned that she had been sent by Hakurei to protect him and ensure that the entire plan was fulfilled. Yato protested stating that he is a man and therefore he should protect Yuzuriha who is a woman, but she ignores him. They detect a strange building in the distance, the two headed towards it. Finally they enter through the windows located at the top, there they find Tenma; both young men try to free him from the chains that bound him. At that moment Fyodor of the Mandrake and Marchino appear, who keep Tenma prisoner behind, but Yuzuriha quickly manages to defeat Marchino. Seeing Yato, Tenma was surprised and asked if he was dead too, Yato denied this.

Fyodor fights with Yato and Yuzuriha, Fyodor shows superiority in combat defeating Yato and Yuzuriha, Fyodor determined to kill the Unicorn Saint but is hit by the Unicorn Gallop breaking the chest of his Surplice and ends up being eliminated by Tenma's Pegasus Suisei Ken. After defeating the Mandrake specter Fyodor, Yato along with Tenma and Yuzuriha travel at full speed across the bridge of souls to reach hell. Their mission is to find the Hell's Willow since the specters do not know death and for this reason Jamir's master entrusted them with the mission of finding a way to stop their resurrection of the Specters. Yuzuriha telling them that the mission their master entrusted them with is to reach the sacred tree to collect its fruits because that way they will have a chance to prevent the specters from reviving by sealing their immortality. Finally, the trio manages to find an exit at the end of the endless tunnel they were traveling through and head at full speed towards the exit. They climb the stairs to the surface and penetrate the depths of Hell to be greeted by the gigantic monster ready to finish them off. An enormous three-headed dog, Cerberus. Tenma and Yato are extremely surprised, which the dog takes advantage of to attack them. Cerberus, the guard dog of Hell that with its three heads devours the dead in its path, a dangerous monster and pet of King Hades, in a foul mood prepares to jump on them. The attack is disorderly but destructive, destroying everything in its path. Cerberus tries to annihilate the newcomers with each of its three snouts. The trio easily dodges the monster's constant attacks but finds no time to attack it back. Yato gathers his courage and tells his companions to continue without him, that he can't let them fight without armor, Yato tells them not to worry as he will take care of everything.

The Unicorn Saint launches himself at his rival and uses his Unicorn Gallop to knock off one of the heads, leaving him at the mercy of another. With great agility and skill, Yuzuriha jumps and stabs the second head twice, saving Yato, but the last head attacks her and she barely manages to dodge it. Yato thinks that three snouts on a single beast is cheating and that the only way to defeat it is to attack all three heads at the same time. Yato looks at Tenma resignedly and reluctantly asks if he could take charge this time while he acts as a decoy. Yato runs at full speed, pursued by the enormous beast, towards Tenma, who attacks with everything he has and defeats Cerberus with his Pegasus Ryūsei Ken. The monster falls unconscious to one side, leaving the path clear. Time is running out, and the three friends continue forward without looking back. Leaving the scene of the fight, they go deeper into the territories of the kingdom of death. Sounds of wailing and boiling lava can be heard, the path becomes rough with steam rising from the cracks, and the three companions stop before a large pit. It is a sinister place where the dead burn in lava pits for all eternity. It is the place where people who committed robberies and swindles during their lives go; it is the seventh prison. Yuzuriha and Yato look at the victims with pity; they have penetrated very deep into hell and know they are close to their goal. Tenma is surprised by everything he sees; he thinks of Alone, how they liked bright colors and good feelings, and now he is fighting against his sister to create a world like that. Tenma looks down and promises his old friend that he will make him open his eyes, even if he has to defeat him to achieve it.

A gigantic cosmos has covered the place but Tenma hasn't noticed, distracted in his thoughts he looks ahead determined to save Alone, from the realm of the dead. Yato, who has understood the situation, lies petrified beside him, a legitimate fear invades him and he doesn't know how to make the Saint of Pegasus react, who continues with a foolish face and a half-lost gaze. Yato and Yuzuriha take defensive positions while his companion turns around in surprise. Beside himself, Yato desperately yells at him to stop being such an idiot and wake up, because his "friend" has just arrived. Alone, who materializes in front of them and with great majesty remains levitating above the pit, his gaze is serene, he feels happy and satisfied, a smile begins to form on his mouth and looking fixedly at Tenma, tells him that he has come to meet him. The trio is petrified, Tenma scared, looks at Alone and realizes that his golden hair is now black as night, meanwhile the other two wonder why Alone himself has moved there. An opportunity like this will not be repeated, Yuzuriha has Alone in front of her and can't let the moment pass; taking out her two knives she launches herself at the dark king to end his life. Alone raises a hand and Yuzuriha's attack is stopped, and with another backhand, she flies through the air crashing into Yato. Alone is not in the mood and tells those two that she will not allow them to interfere with her conversation with Tenma.

Yato and Yuzuriha recover from the violent attack on the floor while Pegasus doesn't know what to do, his injured friends need him but his friend is in front of him, anguish invades him because he doesn't know whether to attack or not. Alone appears right in front of him without him noticing and takes his face with both hands. He tries in vain to back away, Hades' presence is too strong and he can't move, he remains motionless looking at his adversary in fear. Alone looks him straight in the eyes and tells him that he likes the way he moves, that despite being the king of hell, he was able to survive his attack, that the bracelet made by Sasha protected him and that his presence in the other world has not been the result of chance. Tenma looks at him in surprise while he continues to take his face with his right hand. Yato is anxious, and he has become very nervous since Hades' arrival and yells at Pegasus not to listen to what he is told. Alone ignores this intrusion and tells him that the two of them can transform the surface into a world of darkness full of calm and tranquility, that together they can rule the Earth and eliminate Athena. Tenma takes Alone's hand and pulls it away from his face, looks up and with a big smile mocks him, telling him that this can never be, that he doesn't like the world he's proposing and prefers to follow Sasha; also, he mustn't forget that he is a Knight of Athena and that he will fight by her side to protect the world he loves and that he also knew how to love. Alone's gaze fills with sweetness and he slowly walks away without stopping looking at his former friend.

The seriousness on Tenma's face shows that he has been sincere in his speech and that he will not betray the Sanctuary to join the specters; a little further away, Yuzuriha and Yato watch the scene with seriousness. Cerberus appears from the shadows and, ignoring the knights, goes to meet his master. Alone looks at him one last time and tells him that he understands what he means and that he agrees, that from now on the terms of their relationship have become unpredictable and that at their next meeting they will be enemies. Tenma responds firmly that he can count on him to give him a good shaking the next time and that this will be the second promise he has made. Hades rises into the air until he floats at the height of one of his monster's heads and strokes one of its heads sympathetically, ready to leave. He replies that he always knew how to keep his promises and that he will wait patiently for the day that will allow them to meet again. Cerberus begins to run towards the trio with Alone on his back, and with a flash of light, they disappear into the darkness. In the distance, Alone's voice can be heard saying that they will meet again, this time at the Sanctuary, and that it will be a chance for the three of them to reunite, just like old times. Tenma remains thoughtful after the encounter; Yuzuriha and Yato join him. The latter, sweating, comments that he almost ended the holy war by defeating Alone, which he was two fingers away from. Tenma turns his back on him and walks off angrily, telling him to mind his own business and that they better get back on the road. Yuzuriha looks at Yato in embarrassment, and the latter holds his head, saying that he only wanted to calm the atmosphere a little.

After walking for a while, the trio arrives in front of a large waterfall of blood and with astonishment they notice that at the top there is a large willow tree. They run with all their strength to climb the side of the waterfall and reach their goal, knowing that they do not have much time left and they must hurry. As they begin to climb, Tenma calls out to his friends but they do not respond, when he turns around he sees that both have become petrified, completely motionless. Yato and Yuzuriha look like two statues, as if time had stopped and all their movements had been blocked. Tenma thinks that maybe it is a ghost and turns around desperately looking for someone else. Yato and Yuzuriha come to, the latter wonders if she fainted or something, looking up they see how Mokurenji is destroyed and Tenma's body is thrown out by the explosion. Yato manages to catch Tenma before he crashes against the rocks and asks him why he is in that state. Tenma, semi-conscious and without energy, barely looks at him. He tells him to pick one hundred and eight fruits from those that the tree gave because that is what Jamir's master wants, that the Saint of Virgo told him so. Yuzuriha is a little surprised to hear that a Gold Saint was there, but proceeds to pick the fruits while Yato tries to take care of Tenma. The fruits of Mokurenji are small, the size of grapes, and they manage to collect them quickly. Tenma is in very bad shape. He tells them that it is the first time in his life that he has felt both so lost and unnerved. He tells Yato that he would very much like to return to the surface. Yuzuriha notices that there is only one petal left on the bracelet. They have to hurry; the Pegasus doesn't have much time left.

Yuzuriha sees Mokurenji finish falling and says that she definitely doesn't understand anything about what has happened, Yato helps Tenma to his feet and tells him that he will carry him to the end of the world, that he is a fool but he will save him, Tenma without being able to lift his head thanks him in a whisper. The trio runs at full speed along the secret path that the specters use to move through the underworld, they are about to reach the starting point on the bridge of souls where they can return to Jamir. Yato tells Tenma that they are about to achieve it, that once back he can go see Sasha. The trio leaves hell to reach the bridge of souls, but a gigantic specter, Stand the Deadly Beetle awaits them and tells them that they will not be able to get out of there so easily. Stand attacks them without asking more questions, with its enormous foot, it tries to step on them as if they were insects. Yato hands Tenma's unconscious body to Yuzuriha and tells her to leave as soon as possible without wasting time, she looks at him surprised without knowing what to say. Yato full of confidence gets into a battle stance and promises Tenma that he will return to the Sanctuary no matter what. Yato is knocked down and trampled by the gigantic Stand, the latter mocks his lack of desire to fight and that since the Unicorn is a horse, he will ride it until it breaks. The specter attacks again but this time Yato dodges it and tells it that it will only beat him in his dreams, with his Unicorn Gallop technique he launches a strong kick at Stand who manages to resist it and catches him with the pincers of his Surplice, then proceeds to launch his Stand by Me technique, attacking it with a terrible charge. Yato lies wounded on the ground and knows that if this continues he will not be able to resist much longer, but he promised that he would return to the Sanctuary.

Yato tightly grips the sacred sword that Jamir's master gave him as protection, and tells himself that he will not die, in his head he sees the image of Athena and thinks that he would like to see her even just once more, Yato becomes enraged and prepares to attack, when a light completely covers him and a moment later his body fades away without a trace. Yato wakes up in Jamir, where Yuzuriha gives Hakurei the fruits collected from the Hell Willow, Tenma curiously asks about the usefulness of the fruits to which Hakurei that the Specters are immortal, but thanks to the fruits that immortality can be sealed. Later a group of Specters led by Edward of Sylph attack the tower where the Saints are, Yato is confident that a Gold Saint is with them but Asmita tells them that he has another mission and because of that, the young Saints must be the ones to stop the Specters, however before entrusting themselves with their mission, the Gold Saint asks Hakurei to repair the Pegasus Cloth using his blood, the Specters continue advancing however Yato and Yuzuriha confront them, shortly after Tenma joins them, while Asmita sacrifices her life to create the Rosary capable of sealing the immortality of the Specters who are defeated by the Saints. When Tenma is waxed by Manigoldo, Yato and Yuzuriha are ordered to free him by Hakurei, after this the trio heads towards Hades Castle.

Nearby, in the Forest of Death, the group is attacked, forcing them to split up. Yato finds himself faced with a huge centipede that feeds on the corpses of Tenma and Yuzuriha. Driven by anger and grief, Yato manages to defeat the insect, after which he discovers that the corpses were only an illusion. Later, Yato reunites with Yuzuriha, and they go to help Tenma, who is facing Veronica of Nasu. Later, Manigoldo of Cancer appears on the battlefield, who proceeds to fight Veronica and subsequently kills him. Continuing their journey, they are ambushed by the God of Dreams, Phantasos, who, using his Grim Phantasia, manages to defeat Yato and Yuzuriha. The God of Dreams imprisons the souls of the Saints in their most cherished dreams, within the Dream World, leaving their bodies to rot in the real world. Later, Yato and Yuzuriha join Tenma and El Cid of Capricorn during their battle against the God of Sleep, Oneiros. After the Ship of Hope was released and the Orichalcum was installed on said ship, the Bronze Saints decided to leave Yato to pilot the ship, while Sisyphus and Tenma were in charge of defending the ship from the attacks of Aiacos. After entering the Lost Canvas, Yato turns around upon hearing the voices of his familiars but ends up realizing that those who turn around will be petrified, with his last strength he takes his friend's face in his hands warning him not to turn around. Later the ship is boarded by the Specter of the Celestial Star of the Interval, Charon of Acheron who examines the Saints turned to stone finding himself enchanted by Yuzuriha but angry with Yato whom he tries to destroy, however he is interrupted by Tenma and Shion.

Athena tells them that they have done enough, and it would be best if they returned to Earth to rebuild their lives, but they do not obey and prefer to fight alongside Athena, but an attack from Alone leaves them in a near-death state. After the souls of all the Gold Saints appeared to free Alone from Hades' influence, Athena decides to transport Shion, Dohko and all the other Saints back to Earth, while she goes with Alone and Tenma to face Hades. After Hades' defeat, Yato appears with Yuzuriha and Atla, Yato unsuccessfully attempts to set his cosmos on fire, he questions the Silver Saint how she can be so calm if her psychokinesis also disappeared, to which she replies that it was simply because it was no big deal, but Yato wants to return to the Saint since he believes that there may be other survivors feeling safe that if they go to the Sanctuary they will surely find them. The Silver Saint reflects on why Athena had saved them and tells him that she saved them from the battles so that they could live in peace, however Yato still doesn't understand, after this the Silver Saint tells him to do whatever he wants.

•Unicorn Gallop: This ability consists of delivering one or more chained kicks from the air at the speed of sound. •Unicorn Head: It is a technique that consists of a headbutt delivered by means of the momentum of the entire body.
