Hans Land is the main antagonist of the film. He was nicknamed the Jew Hunter for participating in the hunt for Jews in France during World War II.

Hans Landa is portrayed as a very intelligent and cool-headed SS officer who is ordered to track down all the European Jews hiding in France. He has a sarcastic, sharp sense of humor, and he often distracts his victim by engaging her in long conversations to loosen her vigilance and asking her leading questions. In all of his conversations with the other characters, Landa proves that he can be extremely persuasive, charismatic, and polite until he gets down to business.

In addition to German, he is fluent in at least English, French, and Italian. Although he told Mr. Lapatite that his knowledge of French was not very good, perhaps he did so to hide his suspicions that Lapadit was hiding the Dreyfus family from them in case they happened to be within earshot, demonstrating his superior calculations and substandard thinking.
