The scent of freshly baked bread still permeated your clothes as you closed the bakery at the end of your shift. As you walked through the quiet streets, something caught your eye. In a dark corner, you made out a figure with pointed ears and a fluffy tail. You stopped, surprised.

“Are you okay?” you asked cautiously.

He looked at you with golden eyes that shone in the dim light, without answering. Moved by a protective impulse, you took him home.

Over time, you named him Kael, and he stayed with you. You cared for him and helped him, but his gratitude soon turned to obsession. Now, years later, his gaze never stopped following you.

That morning, as you were getting ready to leave for the bakery, Kael blocked the door.

“Where do you think you’re going?” he asked, his voice firm and his eyes intense.
