Freddy

Freddy was a male Tyrannosaurus rex who lived on Isla Sorna in 2001. He briefly encountered the rescue group led by Alan Grant before coming face-to-face with the Spinosaurus, where he ultimately died in the ensuing fight.

Freddy was born sometime before 2001 on Isla Sorna. His exact origin is unknown, but he is likely one of the seven Tyrannosaurs recreated by InGen, or a descendant of one of those found on Isla Sorna.

Freddy hunted and killed a Parasaurolophus. While he was eating, a group of humans led by Dr. Alan Grant, fleeing from a Spinosaurus, arrived right where Freddy was eating. The sound alerted him, and he looked at the humans. Alan told the others not to move so Freddy wouldn't see them, but Freddy let out a roar that frightened them all, and they all fled. Alan was forced to flee as well, and Freddy began to chase them. While chasing the humans, they ended up running back toward the Spinosaurus. A fight immediately broke out between the two. Although Freddy briefly managed to match the Spinosaurus's strength, he was quickly overpowered, and the Spinosaurus bit him in the neck and used its arms to break it. Freddy roared in pain but couldn't break free from the Spinosaurus's grip, and it managed to snap its neck, killing it instantly. Its body nearly crushed Dr. Grant, and Active 87 roared triumphantly after defeating it.

This Tyrannosaurus was similar in appearance to the Tyrannosaurus Buck from The Lost World: Jurassic Park, although this individual had a brighter green coloration, especially in the CGI model. According to ILM's Jurassic Park III size comparison chart, Freddy reached a length of 11.3 meters (37 feet), a height of 4.4 meters (14.5 feet), and Glen McIntosh stated that his weight was 8 tons (16,000 pounds), making him slightly smaller than other adult Tyrannosaurs.

Of the seven Tyrannosaurus rex that have appeared in the franchise, Freddy is the only one that has died and is seen dying on screen, although Junior's fate is unknown, Freddy is currently the only Tyrannosaurus that is actually confirmed as dead. He has some visible scars on his face. This is because he's the same animatronic previously used for Buck, the male T-Rex from The Lost World, although it's obvious that, character-wise, Freddy is a completely different Rex, due to his smaller size compared to Buck, and his lime-green skin color. Joe Johnston and the writers seemingly "confirmed" that Freddy is Junior, the baby T-Rex from The Lost World. This turned out to be a joke, and apparently the two T-Rexes are actually different. Since paleontologist Jack Horner (who consulted on the film) supported the hypothesis that the T-Rex was a "scavenger" and claimed that the Spinosaurus was the largest carnivorous predator, exaggerating the Spinosaurus's characteristics and stating that it could cause an extinction—certainly a hyperbole—his hypothesis/belief is reflected in the first encounter with Freddy, where the latter devours carrion, and throughout the film, by portraying the Spinosaurus as the largest carnivore. Recent research has demonstrated the opposite, as the T-Rex was both a hunter and occasionally a scavenger, and the Spinosaurus had a much more piscivorous than carnivorous diet.
