During Queen Nehanda's reign, one of her servants, Adwoma, heard about a ploy to poison the queen, so she stepped in during the meal to stop her from eating, successfully saving the queen's life. After this, Adwoma became the first of the Queen's personal guard, the Dora Milaje, who came to include one barren woman from every tribe.

During Benhazin's reign, the Dora Milaje initiations were opened to all women of all tribes, which caused their numbers to triple, as tribes felt it was the opportunity to have one of their one become the queen. Even though Benhazin never consorted with the Dora, they forever came to be seen as potential wives for the king.
