Biography

Jinpachi is the father of Heihachi Mishima and the founder of the Mishima Zaibatsu. He expanded the corporation into an industrial empire by capitalizing on military demand during World War II. After the war, he regretted the direction of the company and is said to have abhorred unnecessary conflict. Instead, he decided to dedicate his family's legacy solely to martial arts. Unlike most Mishimas, Jinpachi is an honorable fighter with a strong sense of wisdom. He is also friends with Wang Jinrei. However, Jinpachi's life took a turn for the worse when the bitter Heihachi staged a coup and stole the company from him. Jinpachi attempted to take the company back from Heihachi, but failed and was imprisoned by him beneath the Mishima family temple, Hon-Maru. Some time later, he starved to death, until he was later animated by a demonic entity.

When Hon-Maru was destroyed by an army of Jack robots, Jinpachi was freed. Heihachi was caught in the explosion and was believed to be dead at the time. Jinpachi organized the fifth King of Iron Fist Tournament, determined to end the corrupt Mishima bloodline and free himself from the demon possessing him. At the end of the tournament, Jinpachi was defeated and eventually killed by his great-grandson, Jin Kazama. With the evil force that had awakened him vanquished, a grateful Jinpachi passed away peacefully.

Appearance

Large and muscular, Jinpachi is an intimidating figure, despite his age. He has hazel eyes and a bald scalp, while white hair hangs around the back of his head. He also has a short white beard and mustache, which curves around the sides of his face to form two points on the sides of his head, similar to his son Heihachi's hairstyle.

When Jinpachi is under the spirit's possession, his eyes glow yellow and a large fanged mouth opens on his abdomen. His skin also changes color and a misty aura surrounds his body.

Suits:

Jinpachi primarily wears tattered clothing and pants on his lower body, with a large metal sash decorated with white ribbons fastened around his waist. He fights barefoot and topless, though he does wear jewelry, primarily gold bands around his wrists, arms, and ankles, as well as an ornate gold necklace.

Personality

Unlike most Mishimas, Jinpachi was a man of honor, harmony, and wisdom, a friend of Wang Jinrei and one of the few who showed compassion for his grandson Kazuya when the latter was a child. In his Tekken 5 ending, realizing that no one could stop him, he shed tears as the "devil" possessing him grew more powerful, showing remorse for the actions he performed while under its control, as well as great sadness for the feud that cursed his family.

History

Tekken and Tekken 2:

Jinpachi does not appear, but is mentioned in Wang's backstory in both games. In addition to this, Jinpachi's grave can be seen in Wang's ending in the second game. In Wang's backstory, it is stated that Jinpachi had already died long before the first game, but it is implied that before he died, Jinpachi knew that the Mishima line would be doomed one day and warned Wang about this. Despite his warnings, it is stated in the first game that Wang only had suspicions about Heihachi's true conduct, but in the second game he is already searching for a successor to bring honor back to the Mishima Zaibatsu (who turned out to be Lee Chaolan).

Tekken 5:

After being taken over by a vengeful spirit and granted incredible supernatural powers, Jinpachi escapes Hon-Maru when the complex is destroyed during a battle between Heihachi, Kazuya, and an army of Jack-4 sent to kill Kazuya. With news of Heihachi's apparent demise, Jinpachi takes over the Mishima Zaibatsu from behind the scenes and organizes the fifth King of Iron Fist Tournament in hopes that someone will free him before the spirit takes over completely, so much so that he writes to his old friend Wang, asking him to compete and put an end to the Mishima bloodline, which has been cursed by Heihachi's greedy ambitions.

At the end of the tournament, Jinpachi faces his great-grandson, Jin Kazama, who defeats him and finally puts him to rest.

Final description:

Jinpachi laments that no one has been able to defeat him, and as a single bloody tear runs down his cheek, he transforms into a much more demonic form as the spirit takes over him completely. He then screams, in rage or pain, and shoots up into the sky. As the screen fades to black, a message reads, "Jinpachi's mind is consumed by the devil as he reaches his final transformation. The world will never be the same." This ending is only shown when the player loses to Jinpachi and decides not to continue.

After Jinpachi is defeated, he turns to dust, but in some later games like TTT2, he was resurrected.

Tekken 6:

Jinpachi is briefly mentioned by both Devil Jin and Jin in Wang's scenario during Campaign mode; the former taunting Wang over the death of his best friend.

Tekken 7:

It is briefly mentioned that Heihachi's takeover of the Zaibatsu from Jinpachi occurred around the same time he killed Kazumi and threw Kazuya off the cliff.

Other appearances

Tekken Tag Tournament 2:

Jinpachi appeared in Tekken Tag Tournament 2, now as a playable character.

Profile:

Heihachi Mishima's father, and the one once known as the "Ultimate Fighter." A long-time friend of Wang Jinrei, the two have a friendly rivalry of sorts. He has a soft spot for his grandson, Kazuya, and even trained him when he was just a child.

"Let's see what you got."

In the console version's opening movie, Jinpachi takes a taxi to "where he can display his amazing power", believing he is going to Heihachi's new tournament. An unlockable "epilogue" movie shows that the driver misinterpreted Jinpachi's instructions and, believing him to be an old pervert, took him to a red-light district. Jinpachi wonders if said district is where the tournament will be held, as several women propose to him.

Final description:

Jinpachi is seen wandering around within Heihachi's estate. Upon finding Heihachi, he confronts him, clearly desiring revenge for his betrayal. Heihachi simply comments that Jinpachi has just returned from Hell. Jinpachi then unleashes his innate power against Heihachi, who at first seems to easily resist it. Further enraged, Jinpachi concentrates his powers and unleashes an explosion that destroys the entire room around him and knocks Heihachi back.

Tekken Revolution:

Jinpachi appears in Tekken Revolution as a possible sub-boss in Arcade mode, with his son, Heihachi, being the alternative.

Fighting Style

Although officially stated as unknown, Jinpachi fights using Mishima Style Fighting Karate moves. In Tekken 5, it is mixed with demonic powers.

Relations

Heihachi Mishima - His son and now deceased enemy. It is unknown how they first became enemies, but Heihachi betrayed him 40 years prior to Tekken 5, leading to Heihachi taking control of the Mishima Zaibatsu. Heihachi later imprisoned Jinpachi under the command of Hon-Maru.

Kazumi Mishima: his deceased daughter-in-law, was also a student at his dojo before Heihachi took power.

Kazuya Mishima - His grandson. Unlike Heihachi, Jinpachi was very fond of Kazuya and cared for him, being a father figure to his grandson and teaching him Mishima-style karate. Jinpachi is also the only person Kazuya addresses politely (ending his statements with "desu" or "masu").

Lee Chaolan: His adopted grandson. It is unlikely that Jinpachi knew Lee.

Lars Alexandersson: His grandson. They have never met and seem to be unaware of each other's existence.

Jin Kazama: His great-grandson. He was defeated by him at the end of Tekken 5.

Wang Jinrei: His best friend. He wrote him a letter during Tekken 5 to ask for help.

Mokujin: Was awakened by Jinpachi's evil power in Tekken 5.

Legendary Capoeira Master - They may have fought each other at some point in the past (non-canon).
