Akuma (悪魔?) (which in Japanese means demon) and originally known in Japan as Gouki (豪鬼 Gōki?, lit. Great Ogre or Great Demon) is a fictional character from the Street Fighter video game series. Akuma is Gouken's younger brother, Ryu and Ken's teacher. He always had a great grudge against his brother and for a time his only goal was to defeat him. As the brothers progressed under Goutetsu's tutelage, a disagreement arose over the true nature of their fighting style and the path to mastering it. Gouken, unable to accept the violent nature and Satsui no Hado of his fighting style, left Goutetsu to start his own dōjō, to which Goutetsu did not object. Akuma continued Goutetsu's teachings, and vowed to use his fighting style as it was intended.
