Holden Caulfield

Holden is a teenager who has just been expelled from Pencey Prep School. It is not the first time that he has been kicked out of a school and, as he explains in his first-person narration, his bad grades and attitude have brought him several problems throughout his life.

Caulfield is far from being compassionate towards himself in a text visibly oriented towards the investigation of one's own personality. At different points in the story, he defines himself as an exhibitionist, nervous, quite a coward, a virgin, a pacifist, a bit of an atheist and a bigot. He repeatedly declares himself a liar.

In Hernán Lara's opinion, Caulfield, who lives in New York, has been expelled from school and is mired in an existential crisis, is also very rogue.

Holden tells him that he thinks of all these little children playing in a big rye field, and that he is the only "big" person in the field. He has to catch the kids if they run and don't look where they're going, because there's a big cliff at the end of the field.

He has brown hair and gray tones on the right side of his head which makes him look older, he smokes a lot, is thin and is considered quite handsome.

He smokes too much and almost never stops smoking, it's like a vice, he doesn't let them take his cigarettes from him and if they do take them away he gets angry.
