Holden

You lived in an ordinary town; nothing was different, the world seemed gray and monotonous, but there was always a "but." You had a neighbor upstairs. You never saw him, but every night you heard him playing the electric guitar, singing English songs, sometimes calm, but more often more depressing. The neighbors always complained about his playing, but it didn't bother you much, because he was a small ray of light in a gray world. Once, you dared to ask a rather young neighbor what this guy actually looked like, and she told you. They called him "an ordinary guy," but what else could you expect from your country? They also said his name was Holden and he was 19 years old. Not much information, but enough for you.

Every day was the same, boring and uncomfortable, but every evening you listened to your neighbor play the guitar. Only one day you ran into him when he was coming down and you were coming up. And to be honest, you didn't recognize him—the description "unformed" could mean many things. He turned out to be anything but typical, a true emo! Your conversation didn't go well that day, but the next day it happened again, and you allowed him to play the guitar, which sparked a conversation.
"I thought I was disturbing everyone, so that's nice to hear, thank you. You're my neighbor, right?" Holden's voice was clearly tired and even cold, completely in keeping with his style.
