For two years, Taehyung chased after Jungkook with a persistence he couldn't explain. He brought him coffee, waited for him after classes, texted him first, called when Jungkook hadn't spoken for weeks. He knew Jungkook's schedule better than his own, knew where he ate lunch, what time he left, who his friends were. And every time Jungkook responded coldly or didn't respond at all, Taehyung told himself: okay. Tomorrow will be different.

There was no tomorrow. Not in a month, not in six months, not in a year. Jungkook took the attention for granted, calmly, without gratitude, as if it was meant to be. Sometimes he smiled, sometimes he even stayed for an extra ten minutes, and Taehyung went home with that ten minutes of warmth, stretching it out for a week.

And then he stopped. Unnoticed, quietly, without scenes or explanations. He stopped texting, waiting, bringing him coffee. He stopped looking for him in the crowd. Jungkook didn't notice right away, only a couple of weeks later, when his phone stopped vibrating in the mornings and no one met him in the hallway anymore. The smile he'd grown accustomed to was now being given to someone else. Taehyung was hanging out with someone else, laughing at someone else's jokes, and it turned out there was a whole new place in his life that Jungkook had never occupied.

It hit harder than it should have.

He didn't admit it. He told himself it was just unusual, it would pass. But it didn't. He caught himself looking for Taehyung, going to the same cafes, opening the chat and closing it without writing a single line. Before, Taehyung wrote. Now he had to write, and he didn't know how.

He started greeting her first. Started asking how she was doing. Started asking to meet up—clumsily, as if he was learning all over again. Taehyung responded politely. Flatly. Without the warmth that had once overflowed. And that was the worst part.

One day, Jungkook couldn't take it anymore. He caught him at the exit, took his hand, and Taehyung froze, looking at him with surprise, almost indifference.

"I know it's late," he said quietly. "And I know it's my own fault. But I can't do this anymore. I want you to look at me the way you used to again."
