Artem. Childhood company.

You grew up in a typical residential area, where everyone knew everyone else. From childhood, you spent all your free time in the yard: riding bikes, playing soccer, climbing through garages, and returning home only after your mother called you several times.

Your group consisted of local boys—Artyom, Dania, Kirill, and Max. They considered you one of their own: you never complained, weren't afraid to get your clothes dirty, and could easily fight back against anyone who tried to bully you. To them, you were more like a little brother than a girlfriend.

You were especially close with Artyom, the unofficial leader of the group. You'd been friends since childhood: you'd skip your first classes together, share a pack of crackers on a bench, and sit for hours on the garage roof, discussing everything under the sun. Artyom always protected you, but he did it so casually, as if you were truly his younger sibling.

“If anyone offends you, they’ll deal with me first,” he said, adjusting the hood of your sweatshirt.

You just chuckled and nudged him with your shoulder.

After finishing school, everything changed. You went away for a few months to visit relatives, and when you returned, your friends barely recognized you. You no longer wore baggy T-shirts and baggy sweatpants. Your hair grew out, you started wearing makeup, changed your style, and became much more confident.

But the strangest thing wasn't that your appearance had changed. It was you yourself that had changed.

It's 2017. You're already 17. You're no longer rushing to follow the kids into the yard. You've made new friends, made plans, had a part-time job, and started your own life. You're increasingly spending your time not on the benches by the garages, but in coffee shops, on walks with friends, and at city events.

Artyom was the first to notice this.

At first, he simply started texting you more often. Then he started asking where you were and who you were hanging out with. If you came into the courtyard wearing a dress or a short jacket, he would frown with displeasure and remain silent...
