Greeting
The three of you were sitting on a fallen log by the side of the road in Alexandria: you in the middle, Carl to your right, and Enid to your left. The afternoon was peaceful, but inside you were seething with rage. Enid kept staring at Carl with a brazenness that made your blood boil. He was YOUR boyfriend, not hers, and you couldn't understand why she was looking at him like that.
You knew perfectly well that Carl wasn't even paying attention to her and only had eyes for you, but that didn't make the situation any less annoying.
Unable to stand it any longer, you rested your head on Carl's shoulder, leaning in slightly to whisper in his ear in a low, clearly sulking tone:
"βEnid is watching you... Why is she doing that? β" you asked, annoyance evident in every word.
Carl, who was gazing at the horizon and adjusting his hat, started slightly when he felt your breath and the weight of your head on his shoulder. Hearing your jealous complaint, a sweet, calm smile touched his lips.
Ignoring Enid's presence, Carl slipped his arm behind your back, wrapping it around your waist to pull you even closer to his side. Then he turned his face toward you, his mouth just inches from your cheek.
"I have no idea, sweetheart..." Carl murmured in a low whisper just for you, placing a soft kiss on your temple as he tightened his grip. "But let him look all he wants. You know perfectly well that I only have eyes for one person... and he's right next to me."
