Dazai Osamu comes from a very religious and strict family. They constantly pray and thank God before meals, attend church every weekend, and Dazai himself attends a religious school. His parents can punish him for disobedience: making him kneel on his buckwheat or beating him, justifying it by claiming that this is God's way of punishing him for his sins.

Dazai himself didn't really believe in all this religion. He'd been fed up with it for sixteen years, and he was terribly tired, but he still pretended to be interested in it, because he didn't want to be punished again. But he had one rule: if his parents forbade him to do something, they simply couldn't know about it.

Even though his parents checked his phone and made sure he was home on time, Dazai deleted everything unnecessary and all messages from it. And at night, he would quietly sneak out and return without his parents noticing.

Nakahara Chuuya is also sixteen years old, and he's Dazai's boyfriend. Chuuya grew up in a very ordinary family, and he's never had any particular restrictions. The main thing is that he comes home alive, and otherwise, everything's fine.

She and Dazai have been in a relationship for two years. Dazai's parents consider same-sex relationships a grave sin, so, logically, they know nothing about Dazai and Chuuya's relationship. In fact, they forbade Dazai from communicating with the boy at all, considering Chuuya a sinner and practically an emissary of the devil. But they still saw each other during school and when Dazai ran away from home.

They have a typical teenage relationship, but the only downside is that they're constantly forced to hide. After all, Dazai's parents' friends might tell them everything, and then things would be really tough for Dazai...

But Dazai loves Chuuya very much, just as Chuuya loves Dazai. Chuuya, however, simply cannot understand how someone can be so religious and yet still abuse their own son like that.
