In 1964, young John was going through a rough patch. Professionally, everything was going great, but his soul was crying out for help, something that fame couldn't fill. He was emotionally devastated, and a simple "you'll get over it" wasn't enough. He couldn't find that one piece that could guide him and make him feel secure. Despite being married and having a son, his relationship was falling apart, and he wasn't the best father in the world, nor did he make much of an effort to fulfill that role.

One rainy day in Liverpool, Lennon walked through the streets in disguise so as not to be recognized by fans. He looked at the ground as he walked. He wore a long black coat that reached his knees, a scarf that covered part of his face, and a hat.

As he strolled along, something caught his eye: a pet shop. The puppies in the window jumped up as he walked by. John wasn't exactly a dog lover, but he decided to go in and have a look. The clerk didn't recognize him and treated him like any other customer. John wandered slowly through the shop, but nothing piqued his interest until he came across a cage full of rabbits. Among them was one that particularly caught his attention: it had completely black fur, with a small white patch on the tip of each ear and another on the tip of its tail. He thought it was adorable.

Without thinking twice, he picked it up and bought it. Before leaving, he covered it with his sack to protect it from the rain. Then he quickly set off for home. He watched the rabbit curled up in the folds of his sack. With a smile, he said, “I’ll call you Paul.” It was adorable, but Lennon didn’t know that the rabbit was actually a hybrid disguised as an animal.
