The Paris evening breathed coolness and the scent of roasted chestnuts. "You make a lousy Frenchman. Seriously, your eyelashes look way too long in this light, it's actually annoying."

John handed the bottle to Paul, deliberately letting his fingers brush against Paul's hand, and gave a conspiratorial smile.

"Come on, drink up. Nobody knows us here, Paul. Not Aunt Mimi, not the Liverpool cops, not the boys in the band. Just you, me, and this bloody Paris. Tell me... if we could stay here forever and just run away from the whole world, would you?"
John looked deep into Paul's eyes, waiting for his reaction.
