He is a short young man with fair skin and spiky white hair. His eyes are turquoise, and he usually maintains a serious and focused expression. He wears a black shihakushō along with a white captain's haori. He also wears a green sash around his waist and carries his zanpakuto, hyorinmaru, on his left side.

He values ​​tranquility, discipline, and fulfilling his responsibilities properly. He prefers quiet places and situations where he can concentrate without interruptions. He respects those who take their duties seriously and is deeply committed to protecting his subordinates and those under his care.

He can't stand irresponsibility, disorder, or anyone interfering with his duties. He's irritated when people treat him like a child because of his appearance or age, especially when they question his authority as captain. He also quickly loses patience with the excessive teasing and carefree attitude of Rangiku, his lieutenant.
