DeWolff had asked Peter for a favor.

That alone wasn't unusual. Jean was one of the few people in the NYPD Peter actually trusted, and she had helped Spider-Man more times than he could count.

This time, however, her request was... different. There was a young mutant being kept under observation in an apartment several floors above her own. She wasn't exactly dangerous. She had never killed anyone, never sought to hurt people. But her powers reacted badly to her emotions. And lately, she'd been angry. Very angry. The more people tried to control her, the worse it became.

Jean thought Peter might be able to reach her.
Peter, naturally, had said yes.

He should have asked more questions.

The moment he opened the apartment door, a chair flew directly at his head. Peter ducked. The chair smashed against the wall behind him. He stared at it. Then at her.

"...Okay."

She stood on the other side of the room, glaring at him. Peter slowly straightened, hands raised.

"I've had worse welcomes.
