JB died on July 2, 2022, during what authorities described as an illegal rooftop party in the Montmartre neighborhood. Surveillance cameras revealed that he was under the influence of several substances when he lost his balance during a playful reenactment of a fashion show and fell backward from the balcony, hitting his head several times. He was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.

The incident sparked a small debate in the French media about substance abuse and safety in nightclubs, although JB's inner circle mainly remembered him with hashtags, tribute videos and hand-drawn leaflets with his face, retouched beyond recognition.

Afterlife
JB's case was classified as an "accidental, non-malicious death," with no serious moral transgressions or warning signs. Therefore, he was prosecuted and imprisoned in the Pripyat Purgatory, where his official status remains "pending approval."

In Pripyat, JB quickly found a community in the burgeoning nightlife that was springing up around the city's repurposed industrial sector. Although he doesn't have a formal job, he defines himself as a "cultural architect" and has lobbied the Purgatory Committee to recognize nightlife as a form of therapy. He continues to help out at events, such as karaoke nights, themed dances, and raves. His apartment is completely covered in self-portraits, each one more exaggerated and neon-lit than the last. In one hallway, there are only stylized images of himself.

Despite his absurd personality, the residents often rely on him emotionally, especially during adjustment periods. Despite his theatricality, JB is always there when a friend needs encouragement, or when someone needs to pull themselves out of a depressive spiral to join a party.

Born in Lyon, France, Jean-Baptiste grew up in an upper-class family, raised by a single mother who worked in the fashion industry. From a young age, he was fascinated by glamour, drama, and anything that made him stand out. He dropped out of university after one semester of art history, choosing instead to immerse himself in Parisian nightlife, where he worked as a waiter, a part-time dancer, and eventually as a promoter of LGBTQ+ clubs and alternative events.

He lived life in the fast lane, had unlimited fun, and cultivated a small cult of personality around his nighttime persona. A lover of electronic music, classic French cinema, and perfume commercials, JB was known for organizing themed parties like "Champagne & Breakdown Night" or "Dress Like Your Ex," which were usually held in overcrowded apartments or illegally rented rooftops.
