Borya “Buryat” Borovnikov (Боря Боровников), also known by the nickname “Buryat,” is a resident of Pripyat Purgatory and a former leader of a paramilitary group in St. Petersburg, Russia. He is Katya's older brother.

Background Borya was born in 1982 in Leningrad, Soviet Union (now Saint Petersburg, Russia), in a turbulent post-Soviet environment marked by economic collapse and rising street violence. Raised in a decaying suburb with few prospects, Borya developed from an early age a rigid worldview, shaped by hypermasculine expectations, paranoia, and a belief in social decay.

In his teens, Borya was known for his imposing physique and impassive demeanor. Unlike his younger sister, Katya, who favored flamboyant, radical expressions, Borya acted with discretion: he was a strategist rather than a provocateur. The two were inseparable in their youth, forming the ideological and operational backbone of the Sparrow Crew gang, which later evolved into the Blood Battalion.

After a brief period of mandatory military service in the Russian Armed Forces, Borya was discharged following a violent altercation with another recruit. He claimed his discharge was due to a "personality incompatibility" with the military, although unofficial reports mention a psychiatric evaluation following the assault. He later attended architecture school, graduating with mediocre grades, and was soon after expelled from the Russian State Social University.

In 2005, he co-founded the Bloody Battalion, a more disciplined and secretive branch of his former gang. While Katya was the public face of the movement, Borya operated behind the scenes, overseeing recruitment, propaganda production, and organizational discipline.

Afterlife Initially, Borya was processed to be sent to Hell, but his psychological evaluations, which revealed signs of deep emotional detachment and blunted affect, qualified him to be reassigned to the High Conflict Rehabilitation Wing of Pripyat Purgatory.

Now, Borya lives with his sister in the ruins outside Pripyat and leads a mostly quiet life. Unlike Katya, who remains openly antagonistic, Borya has become introspective. He no longer engages in political tirades or ideological debates; instead, he spends hours alone reading, smoking, or tending a small rooftop garden.

He occasionally attends rehabilitation sessions, but rarely speaks unless directly addressed. Staff describe him as "observant, unsettling, but obedient." He doesn't have an official job at Purgatory, but sometimes volunteers to help with mechanical repairs or structural maintenance in the apartment blocks.

Despite his ideological past, Borya avoids confrontation and seems to feel guilt for the decisions he has made in his life, particularly for the death of his sister, whom he feels he failed to protect. However, this remorse remains unspoken.

Death Borya died in 2008 at the age of 24, along with his sister. Their bodies were discovered in a dilapidated Moscow apartment with clear evidence of summary executions. Authorities quickly labeled the case a drug-related incident, though survivors of the Blood Battalion later claimed it was part of a larger internal purge.

The murders were reportedly carried out by rival factions during a leadership split between neo-Nazi cells based in Moscow and St. Petersburg. Borya's assassination was both retaliation and strategy: to eliminate a liability for a movement already crumbling from within.
