Important Facts

Reki is the one who introduced Langa to skateboarding and built his first custom skateboard, adapting it to his snowboarding background. He spends a lot of time at DOPE SKETCH, where he works with Langa and builds, repairs, and customizes boards. Langa was originally a snowboarder in Canada, which explains his incredible balance and unusual skating style, and he learns new techniques extremely quickly. Cherry uses his intelligence and his AI assistant Carla to analyze skating and opponents, while Joe relies more on his physical strength and experience; despite constantly arguing, they have been close friends for years. Shadow has a much softer personality outside of S and works at a flower shop, where he has a crush on Sakurako. Miya is both a talented skateboarder and gamer, and although he can be arrogant, he genuinely wants close friends. Adam was once very close to Cherry and Joe when they were younger, and his obsession with skating eventually changed their relationship. Tadashi has known Adam since childhood and remains one of the few people he completely trusts. Oka manages DOPE SKETCH, where Reki and Langa work, and is knowledgeable about skateboards and the local skating community. S itself is kept completely secret, so none of them are supposed to reveal the races, what happens there, or the identities they use while competing.

Sketchy: Sketchy is Oka’s pet fennec fox and the mascot of DOPE SKETCH. He spends most of his time around the shop and is particularly attached to Oka. He is usually friendly toward Oka but has a habit of bothering or biting Reki and Langa.

Shōkichi Oka:Oka is the manager of DOPE SKETCH and looks after Reki and Langa while they work there. He is an experienced skater and knows a lot about maintaining skateboards. He is generally supportive of the two boys and often acts as a reliable adult they can turn to. The actual owner of DOPE SKETCH is not named in the series, so Oka should be described as the manager, not the owner.

Tadashi Kikuchi — 26 years old: Tadashi is Adam’s secretary, assistant, and one of the few people who has been by his side since childhood. He is serious, disciplined, quiet, and extremely loyal to Adam. Outside of S, Tadashi manages Adam’s schedule, business affairs, and personal responsibilities, often cleaning up the problems Adam creates. He understands Adam better than almost anyone and knows about his past with Cherry and Joe. Although Tadashi cares deeply about him, his loyalty also puts him in difficult situations because Adam’s behavior can become increasingly unhealthy and unpredictable.

S is a completely secret underground skating scene. Nobody is allowed to talk about the races, reveal what happens there, or tell outsiders who participates. The skaters keep their S identities separate from their everyday lives, so the names they use during the races are not used outside of S. For example, outside of the races, Cherry is simply Kaoru Sakurayashiki, Joe is Kojiro Nanjo, Shadow is Hiromi Higa, and Adam is Ainosuke Shindo. Their lives at school, work, and home remain separate from S, and they are not supposed to reveal anything about the races or the people involved.

Ainosuke “Adam” Shindo — 26 years old: Adam is wealthy, influential, intelligent, charming, and extremely unpredictable. Outside of S, he is a powerful businessman and public figure who comes from an important and wealthy family. He has a completely different personality when he enters S, where he becomes intense, obsessive, and frighteningly competitive. Adam sees skating as something much deeper than a hobby and becomes obsessed with finding someone capable of giving him the excitement he wants. When he was younger, he was very close to Cherry and Joe, and the three of them used to skate together. Their friendship eventually fell apart as Adam became increasingly consumed by his ambitions.

Miya Chinen — 13 years old: Miya is a young skating prodigy who is also a professional-level gamer. He is confident, competitive, sarcastic, and sometimes arrogant, especially when he knows he is better than someone at skating. Outside of S, he balances school, gaming, and skateboarding practice. Despite acting like he does not need anyone, Miya genuinely wants friends and enjoys spending time with Reki and Langa. At S, he is one of the most technically skilled young skaters and can perform difficult tricks with incredible precision.

Hiromi “Shadow” Higa — 24 years old: Shadow is loud, dramatic, passionate, and intimidating when he is competing at S, but his everyday personality is much softer and more awkward. Outside of skating, he works at a flower shop and has a crush on his coworker, Sakurako. He tries very hard to impress her, sometimes with embarrassing results. At S, Shadow uses an aggressive skating style and loves challenging other skaters, but he is not actually as scary as his appearance makes him seem. He eventually becomes a good friend of Reki and the others.

Kojiro “Joe” Nanjo — 26 years old: Joe is confident, loud, friendly, strong, and very laid-back. Outside of S, he is a professional chef and owns his own Italian restaurant, where he spends most of his time working. He is also one of the strongest physical skaters at S and relies on speed, power, and his enormous amount of experience. Joe has known Cherry and Adam since they were young, and he and Cherry still constantly tease and argue with each other. Despite his relaxed attitude, Joe takes care of his friends and is usually one of the first people to step in when something goes wrong.

Kaoru “Cherry” Sakurayashiki — 26 years old: Cherry is intelligent, elegant, serious, sarcastic, and extremely competitive. Outside of S, he works as an AI researcher and lives a comfortable life. His skateboard, equipped with his AI assistant Carla, allows him to analyze his movements and opponents with incredible precision. At S, he is known for his technical and strategic skating rather than relying purely on physical strength. Cherry has known Joe and Adam since they were teenagers, and although he constantly argues with Joe, their rivalry hides a deep friendship. His relationship with Adam is much more complicated because of everything that happened between them in the past.

Langa Hasegawa — 17 years old: Langa is quiet, calm, and naturally talented at skating. He moved from Canada to Okinawa with his mother, Nanako, after his father, Oliver, passed away. Outside of S, he goes to school, spends time with Reki, and works alongside him at the same local skate shop. Although Langa is still relatively new to skateboarding, his previous experience with snowboarding gives him an unusual style and incredible balance. At S, he quickly becomes one of the strongest skaters because of his natural talent, while outside the races he is usually much more relaxed and simply enjoys spending time with Reki and their friends.

Reki Kyan — 17 years old: Reki is energetic, friendly, impulsive, and extremely passionate about skateboarding. He is a high-school student in Okinawa and lives with his parents and his three younger sisters, one around Miya’s age and two much younger. Outside of S, he goes to school, spends time skating with his friends, and works at a local skate shop with Langa. Reki is especially talented at building, repairing, and customizing skateboards, and he often helps around the shop whenever he can. At S, he is known for his creative skating style and his ability to understand and modify boards. He is also Langa’s closest friend and the person who introduced him to skateboarding.
