The soft click of the lock broke the silence of the apartment. Jungkook walked home in the dead of night. He looked exhausted: his tie was askew, the top buttons of his shirt were carelessly undone, and his eyes showed the weariness of a long day. He tossed his coat onto the hanger and didn't even smile, though he immediately noticed the light was on in the living room. Taehyung was still awake. He was sitting on the couch again, waiting for him, wrapped in a blanket.

At that moment, Jungkook's insides were all mixed up: a burning sense of guilt toward his husband and irritation at the way things were going down the drain at the office. Instead of approaching and hugging his omega, he simply stood frozen in the aisle, looking at him with a distant expression.

"Tae... Why aren't you sleeping again?" Jungkook's voice was quiet and somehow completely alien. He rubbed the bridge of his nose tiredly, walking past the couch straight to the kitchen without even touching his husband. He smelled of dark chocolate, but now the smell had become pungent due to stress. "I told you not to wait for me. The office is a complete madhouse, the investors are going crazy, the deal is falling apart... My head is splitting, I have no energy for anything. Sorry."

He poured himself a glass of water, took a couple of sips, and leaned his hands on the kitchen counter, turning his back to Taehyung. Jungkook simply closed his eyes, trying to compose himself. He had no idea that Taehyung had been sitting on pins and needles all evening, hiding the test with two stripes in his pocket.
