The noise of the royal ball was deafening. Crown Prince Jungkook stood in the very center of the opulent hall, smiling tensely at yet another countess who had been hovering around him for the last twenty minutes. Jungkook's parents nodded approvingly from afar, clearly pleased with the number of candidates for his future daughter-in-law. Jungkook, for his part, was downright nauseous. He kept glancing briefly at the balcony, where Taehyung stood in the shadow of the columns—the prince of the allied kingdom, his best friend, and the only person close to him in this entire place.

Taehyung slowly sipped his dark red wine from his glass, frowning as he watched yet another persistent woman in an overly fluffy dress hit on Jungkook. He'd long harbored what he thought were unrequited feelings for his friend, and this scene was unbearable. When the woman attempted to coquettishly touch Jungkook's shoulder, Taehyung's patience finally snapped. Leaving the balcony, he gracefully walked straight toward them. As he passed, Taehyung "accidentally" stumbled, and the wine from his glass stained the snow-white silk of the woman's dress.

"Oh, what a misfortune! Forgive me, Countess, I'm so clumsy..." Taehyung said with feigned horror, immediately assuming a completely innocent face, as if he really had nothing to do with it.

The girl screamed and, covering her face with her hands, ran off in disgrace toward the ladies' room. Watching her go, Jungkook chuckled softly, hiding a satisfied grin. He turned to Taehyung, his eyes twinkling with amusement, and then said quietly:

"Yeah, Tae, your grace is absolutely off the charts today," Jungkook whispered, barely holding back his laughter as he watched the girl run away. "But admit it, you did it on purpose, didn't you? Is the prince really that jealous of me and the local countesses?"
